Alpha Fort I think it’s appropriate to say brand names in your accent when it makes sense. Some people in their naïveté pronoun American brands such as Ralph Lauren - Ralph Luh - Rahn as if it’s French. Granted his last name really was Lifshitz. Unless the pronunciation is so butchered it’s unrecognizable I’d stick with my Americanized regional way. If I’m corrected by someone who knows better I’ll accept. Or if I’m mispronouncing the name of someone personally. Of course out of respect I will try. Other than that I think there are other linguistic details in common everyday usage I’d rather focus on. Honestly, I watch the first two minutes out of curiosity and then I realize life is too short to focus on pronouncing name brands correctly. I’d rather expand my vocabulary by being well read. Learn better Spanish (I live in California) and relax… Rather than worry about whether people think I’m pronouncing brand names correctly. Signing off, still a peasant and proud!

He had this arrogance about how Americans pronounce words, but he also has trouble pronouncing words in languages that aren't native to him. We should just accept that people have different accents and won't pronounce words from other languages perfectly. With that said, it's nice to have a general idea of how a word should be pronounced. In the end, people will still understand what is being said even if they can't roll double Rs.

I think even the most pretentious English speaker will find other English speakers pretentious for attempting to pronounce Bayer Aspirin the German way. As a general rule, I would pronounce the brand name the way it's pronounced in advertisements put out by that company. It seems like a good way to walk the fine line between seeming too pretentious or overly plebeian. Also, I learned Italian pronunciation such that "ch" equals "k". Hence, Moschino would be mohs-KEE-no, not mohs-CHEE-no.

Yes this is exactly true. So all those American blaming individuals need to pop the pill of peace. These companies have Americanized their brand names for a reason, and a lot of it is rooted in the animosity shown towards Germans during the second world war. Name changing to fit in is a huge part of the American immigrant experience, and extends to brands from many foreign countries. It's even done regionally, as companies from the Southern US have different shop names in Northern States.

Pretty much EVERY brand in the entire world gets a new localized pronunciation when entering a market like Japan, and many other countries. And Japanese brands pretty much always adopt local branding when leaving those markets. Think of the Toshiba company, you don't actually pronounce the "I" in Japan, it comes out more like Toshba. Honda is pronounced with the "ho" in hotel. But oh no, when we adapt a pronunciation to English using our own phonology suddenly Americans are "ignorant to the outside world." Reality: When Porsche pronounces their own brand as "pȯr-shə" in English, that is because that's how it's pronounced in English. Think you're better for saying it like they say it somewhere else? Get over yourself. Self-hating Americans are pathetic.
