i used to practice "morphing" rhythms from one to another by swinging one rhythmic motif progressively closer to the other one, an idea i got from Malcolm Braff's website general-theory-of-rhythm.org
i was reading about MOS scales after writing • "Blessed" (Microtonal ... using the semaphore MOS scale. i was curious before writing the song what it would be like to hear the different iterations of the scale in different EDOs. as i started to sequence the different EDOs, i thought it might as well come up with a sort of demo for this concept to share with others.
for some reason i also wanted the rhythm to mimic the step sizes. so, for every long step, there is a proportionally long note, and for every short step, there is a proportionally small note. after listening back i saw that the very small steps translate to inaudible notes, so i just did two versions, one with a plain rhythm so the notes are more audible.
obviously, this is not the most musical demonstration of this concept. i would like to explore it further, if i can keep my attention on it. also, i am not claiming this is an original idea. i may have heard of this sort of thing, conceptually, but i don't think i have heard it demonstrated.
anyways, that's all i got. thanks for watching and reading.
