Mediation. Morality keeping. Slow down to enjoy the day. Remind myself and ground myself constantly not to seek outside praise but to do good really and work towards world peace.

I never really bought into the fancy car, big house, CEO sort of thing, but there were things I wanted. I REALLY don't want to go into detail. I was homeless, thank you, Wells Fargo Bank, but I handled it differently. I have autoimmune problems, and I knew I had to keep up the meds, and I tried to maintain a bank account, for instance. I only lasted about a week on the streets. I saw things. I did a few things I'm not proud of. I ended up finding a national park, and finding a good place to squat. I'd fought the bank for 4 years, and, in that time, developed survival skills, something I highly recommend to everyone. What I learned living wild, and, later, working ranches, is that I didn't need certain things. I still have a great attachment to indoor plumbing, but there are things I can live without. You see ads that say "Here's this thing that you absolutely must have." Uh, no. It was easy to embrace my spirituality out in the woods. Here, in alleged civilization, not so easy. I have a fixer mobile home. Ain't no castle, but mine, and the roof doesn't leak, and I'm pretty content with it. The noise in the city has put me off, though, and, here in San Antonio, there's not much growing. But I hang out with the ash and the fig trees in my yard, watch the birds at the feeder, leave food my cats and I don't eat out for the wildlife. In my mind, success is having what feeds you in many ways. I will have arrived when I am finally back in a little house in the woods. To me, that is success. Yours may be something else. Being among the trees and the wildlife, that was where I found my soul. Just throwing this out. I really don't suggest you go through the homeless thing, but do think about what you have and what really feeds you spiritually.

I most cultivate a spiritual life by feeling my feelings how they arise and pass, how they feel in my body and what kind of thoughts they make arise. So I then sit with it all. That is the best I have got from buddhism so far. Thank you for another winderful video! Greetings from Estonia! 🙏

Ah, subscribe. That is exactly what word I use when I explain to people of how I live my life. I choose not to subscribe to much of the negative ways of the world. I let go to what does not serve or benefit me in good ways. Stop, look, listen and smell the wonders that is around us. This practice seems to work for me. Listening to your teachings helps me on my path. Thank you Nick.

Hi Ven, Nick, thank you for your channel. I am a devoted Christian from South Africa, but the priciples of devotion, dicipline and routune that you share is also a huge inspiration even applies to many other religions like mine too. I reached a place of total burnout in my life, and i started applying the basic priciples and routines that you teach in my life, and it has tought me to take better care of my mind and body and grow in my spiritual life as a christian as well. Just to show that even if we have different believes, we all need dicipline and structure in our lives. Keep up the good work, may you be blessed! ❤

Powerful lesson. Its crucial in order to strengthen your spiritual life to always remember that you do not have to be what others are. You do not have to act as others act. So many respond in kind. If someone is cruel, steals, lies, betrays you this in no way means you should pay back in kind. Do not let others shape who you wish to be. Forgive the unforgivable. Be kind to those who are unkind to you. Give of yourself in time and needed materials. When we do, we naturally seem to gravitate to like minded individuals. Our circle. How I wish every single human being could practice these pillars of life. What a wonderful world it could be. And yes, be in nature. Garden as well. Being that close to the earth and life is very healing. ❤❤❤❤

All great tips. For me stopping with all the content that brings me suffering has been a huge help. If i know a video, or the comments section, is going to bring me anger, or frustration,i don't watch it. I actively watch content that supports my journey or is educational.I'm a big history nerd 🤓 and I love cooking and food related content. I also did some serious house cleaning of my Facebook page. I tend to use Facebook to keep up with family and a few friends but i recently ditched some people who post nothing but drama. Also, most recently, i stopped reading most fiction. I'm not knocking fiction and I love classical literature but right now at my current stage of spiritual development I'm really trying to limit things on all of those types of fronts and honestly, it's just not something that currently brings me joy and contentment 🙏

I have been meditating for the past 10 years but I have always struggled with consistency. I attend 10 day silent retreat every year but as soon as I get back to my lay life, I fall of the wagon. I have bought your two books on Building blocks of meditation and the journal really useful. I am now following your advice on meditating for 5mins every single day and have kept up for 14 days now. I would be really interested in a video about status and power. These are never talked about it in buddhism. Of course we need to use our gifts and bring good in the world. However, societies today care about power, myself included. (Having higher status means living a healthier life statistically speaking) I've always also been the one to see how shallow that is and that I want to be a leader that inspires good, though. I'm always torn about the topic and want to later write a book on mental health and society. There are certain fundamental things we can not get around as humans for example the desire to be attractive, young, rich, successful. I feel buddhism always emphasizes being good and although I value it a lot it is really hard to apply it to lay life when its almost the entire opposite sometimes.

I live in a small town on an island in the middle of the Pacific. Been feeling the urge to be part of a sangha, so I was pleasantly surprised to hear you mention it first. I can probably go the rest of my life with my spiritual practice alone, but I feel that it would be beneficial to share in the journey with others. I'm fine for now, but I may need to move to find that. Not sure where. Hopefully Life will direct me to the right place at the right time. Thank you for your words of wisdom and dedication to spreading the Buddha's dhamma. Have a beautiful day . . . _/\_

Hi Nick, there is a Buddhist community where I live that does meditation etc. I have always found Buddhism interesting as a set of live principles. However, I’m an atheist so don’t really care for anything metaphysical or overtly religious. I know a lot of Buddhists are just philosophical Buddhists and aren’t especially religious. Do you think the local community would be welcoming if I just wanted to show up for classes? I’m not looking to debate religion with anyone or anything like that. I just want to improve my mental health and ‘spiritual connection’.

The no sexual misconduct thing. Does that mean cutting out sex completely?

No that means not engaging with others who are in committed relationships or if you’re in a committed relationship, not to stray yourself.

Actually, to be honest with you, I already participated in Zen Communities, Tibetan Communities, and those communities were the most toxic groups I have ever encountered in my life, with the Spiritual Teachers only wanting to obtain donations and/or volunteer work. I believe that to have a good fullfilling spiritual life, you need to be as far as possible of spiritual communities. In the Zen Center that I participated the Zen Master was expelled for cheating his wife ( another zen master ) in the zendo with a student. I have also experienced the same in some christian communities, so I prefer to have a lonely practice, because unfortunately spiritual practice is not the priority.

This will be a long discussion Hello, I've been studying about the ultimate truth beyond to all for a while now, and it all comes down from Buddha teaching, spirituality and Buddhism is very connected every where I go, like meditation, astral projection like in avatar the last Airbender and more I just wanna know your thoughts about it Because Buddhism is not religion but some people make it religion because they want to make community And now I wanna discuss About movie related to spirituality, truth and Buddhism In fight club movie when Tyler said self improvement is self gratification and self destruction is, Buddha self destruct himself for not eating for many days to become enlightened and he realize the middle path is the way to be enlightened, like the narrator did at the end of the movie he let go tyler and become balance and end of suffering to achieve nirvana * and another movie connected to Buddhism is the matrix When Neo asked how he could learn to dodge bullets, and was told “When you know you’re the one, you won’t have to.” This could be interpreted as asking, “how can I avoid the suffering of samsara” - the answer being, that when you become enlightened, you won’t have to because you will see them for what they are; just a symptom of ignorance. * and another movie connected to Buddhism is the truman show The Truman Show, for much of the film, Truman does not question his reality as something that is artificial. For most of his life, he accepts the reality of the world with which he is presented. I would argue that this is mainly because our reality is shaped only by what we know. For example, if you’re never confronted with anything sad then sadness simply doesn’t exist in your frame of reference, even though it exists in the lives of millions of others. In the same vein, if you have never been discriminated against, that might make it easy for you to suggest that there is no such thing as racism, but that doesn’t mean other people don’t experience it in their lives. Does this sound familiar? It does to me, as it reminds me of the Buddha. Buddha was a young prince who was guarded from all the harsh truths of life by his father, the king. Inside his palace, there was non-stop music and entertainment, and anything even remotely sad or depressing was strictly forbidden. Sickness, death, and any other form of unpleasantness were kept secret. * and another movies is samsara documentary movie it's all about humanity condition in rat race and everything is buddha perspective watch it and you will know what I mean * and when it comes tv shows it's samurai jack jack shows teach us to let go the past because that shows is about letting go the past and be present and Buddha said, “Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment”1. He also said, “The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, nor to worry about the future, but to live the present moment wisely and earnestly” * and when it comes from the bible the bible said the kingdom of heaven is within and buddha says Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without. and another movie is avatar 2009 and avatar 2 jakes said, eywa lives in us and eywa means god/devine that means everything comes from within us the truth is within us and i can go and on and on about movies connected to Buddha teaching and i have a question, because I've been desperate to know the truth and reality to all on why we need to pay to live, i been reading and watching reviews like this amazing channel, watching a lots of movies, and i ended up realizing that all my study about the ultimate truth about life and reality is comes from Buddha teaching, because many religion make people ignorance from the truth and buddha said that “Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.” “I never see what has been done; I only see what remains to be done.” And everything comes from within that quotes is universal for my intuition perspective now my question is, is Buddha teaching is really the truth to our reality? because for me it makes sense please don't hesitate commenting

Thank you, always for all the guidance, Ven Nick. What does Sattu (spelling?) mean at the end of your talks?
