The "feel the high spots" really helped me last night when practicing grinding on a worn out piston. Started holding it loose and nimble, but still slightly firm. And after my grinding was much smoother. Thanks for all the tips, tricks and how too's. Currently working on my second ported saw thanks to you, Tinman and John's custom saws

Good god you look good. It is so grate to just see you. Your work on vid is a bonus. But for me it doesn’t matter what you talk about is so genuine. The kids grew up hearing John Maddon call football on Sundays. The wife got so used to hearing Maddon on Sunday when he retired was like the day the music died. When you popped up even, she stopped everything. Seeing you today made my day.

Working pistons was a revelation for me, one of the missing links. I had been working on intake, exhaust and transfers for years but never really touched the underside of the piston. I had done all of the outside hard edges but never the underside. It's amazing what happens when you get that texture right. I have seen gains from just getting that cat's tongue on everything and running it on cheap things like little Poulan trimmers and saws and such. Keeping that fuel in suspension makes all the difference. I love taking the time to get it right, it's great therapy I find. I will use the carbide burrs and then work a lot with those small diamond bits to really dial stuff in. I can't get out to do any work on my saws right now so watching you do it helps 😉 Thanks brother, I always have something to learn.

Glad to see you doing good buddy.. keep them videos coming when possible! The smoother, the faster she can go. Finding the friction an freeing it up helps. I know in stock classes of anything. Every part that has friction on it gets polished like a mirror. People wonder is the 1/2 to 1 or 2 hp gained from it is it really necessary some cases no. When you are after every little bit yes that 1/2hp adds up especially with small engines. Regardless the size of the small single cylinder engine.

Harvey, I was thinking about you last night because I haven’t seen you in a while. I’m glad that you’re still on this side of the dirt 😱 Question for you: are saw pistons cast or forged? If cast, are they like automotive with expansion limiters or not? If forged, does anyone hear the rattle like most people would in the auto world? Lastly, is it “possible” to do “some” valuable running enhancements regarding intake values by using your piston skirts to your advantage or would you be sacrificing piston wear by doing such a thing. I don’t have the porting tools yet (or even a building or extra room in the house, but the wife and I are carefully working on getting a new house with a shop that’s already built😁) so I just don’t have a safe place for me to work yet. I know that these questions are many but, you’re never gonna know if you don’t ask! Keep up the good job and please keep getting better. BTW, take care of that cataract. You’ll be so happy that you did. The problem with that is this: the replacement “lens” that your doc puts in is not going to be self adjusting like natural. Be prepared for some kind of vision correction for the distance that you’re looking at. If he sets you up to see without glasses for most things in life, ie driving, then you’ll likely need a couple of different prescriptions for your eyes at the different distance(s) that you look at up close. Talk to him and get his input and information. But like you ALWAYS do, MAKE UP YOUR OWN MIND and don’t let him do it for you!

Brother! I absolutely appreciate you. No one massages a saw like you. Full race porting that lasts. Absolutely epic knowledge. But you need to address the new sh@t. Magnesium pistons that are performing without issue in production environments... Light feeling, and extremely strong. 67cc that brings the power. It's an enigma. I've thrown a wallowed out 385xp case into a fire... The sparking sunlight that elicited from the white-hot magnesium was blinding... I'd rather look at a bead of weld getting laid down. Yet..... It works..... with the compression, heat, and flame. Zero issues with tens of dozens of tanks burned. Please address this. No "oh the friction and heat will burn it up". Remember when mag cases happened. "Oh, magnesium burns.... They won't last" Stihl is pushing the cutting edge..... Pun intended. Airborne! All the way! 11B1P CIB.
