Today I have finished my 650sx. I threw on the new skat trak 9-17, installed dual cooling, and turned the stock exhaust into a dry pipe. The ski tops out around 42 mph but was built for low end power.
I love the cosmetic changes, where did you get the chin pad, the plastic that goes around the gas cap, and the bumpers?

How much does the dry pipe mod help? I’ve got a 750small pin in mine with a 46mm carb, sxr-800 12-18 impeller, JD ride plate and scoop intake grate.

@@robp418 I am not sure how much the 750 stock exhaust will benefit from a dry pipe mod. I definitely had an increase in power on my 650, however when I switched to a factory pipe it was quite a bit more powerful. I would look into a used aftermarket pipe if you can and it will feel like a brand new ski

Do you have a different pole or is it stock? Does not look like an original 650sx pole

It's a stock pole, I cut down the chin pad foam in a prior video.

How long to do the full rebuild? I have a neighbor with an 88 that’s been sitting for a long time, looking to do something similar, with not much experience rebuilding. Are there any good guides to follow?

For my ski, way to much time. If you are looking to rebuild the motor plan out around two weeks. For paint and or body work that is purely based off of how much you do. If you use automotive paint you will want to wait around 60 days before putting it in the water. As for guidelines, Ericson machine and performance for all engine related items. For paint prep/gel coat I just found random videos online.

I commented on one of your other videos I did end up getting the ski one question I do have is should water be coming out both of the ports on the side when it’s idling or only when it’s moving?

I did a custom dual cooling set up so don't reference mine. Stock there is only one fitting and water should be coming out of it when idling. If you have a dual cooling set up on yours and an aftermarket pipe you might want to reference a diagram on it. Just double check that the lines are hooked up correct and you should be good to go.

I have an aftermarket waterbox on mine right now. Its an old TDR non baffled race waterbox, so it's loud....

You do not need an aftermarket waterbox to do a dry pipe mod. I actually would recommend leaving the stock water box in it.

What would you say is the Best performance mod is if I already have a pipe and carburetor

The first mod I would recommend is a skat trak impeller. It by far gives you the most performance over anything else.

Personally mine is very reliable. Now before I fixed it up I had constant issues with the ebox or getting it to start. I went through every nut and bolt on this machine and swapped everything that was broken or worn out. I would estimate putting $500 into a machine if it is in questionable condition.

That’s exactly how my 88 650 was. Replaced bad reeds with boyesen power reeds, head gasket, new fuel lines, and replaced the kehine 28 with the 38/primer. Now it rips. Didn’t help the last owner had cooling lines run ass backwards for the west coast exhaust either, thankfully no motor damage was done
