8.8ltr in 2016 and 900hp I helped prep it, for this run. Brilliantly engineered car, and during testing one day at Donington, it was lapping faster than some of the old F1's on track.

I was there witnessing the Can-Am firsthand in the 1960s into the early '70s. Aside from the 1966 season that saw four different winners in six races; those other years from 1967 to the early '70s it was pretty much a parade of the McLaren team cars dominating; save for a fluke win or two, by another team, spread out over many seasons. The vehicle parade could pretty much sum it up for the rest of the field, too, as the cars would get strung apart from each other for the 200 miles/322 km distance of those races. The exotic cars with the roar of the large displacement engines was stimulating to witness and hear; but rarely was there wheel-to-wheel racing to be seen. I've seen more battling for track position from the 21st Century vintage races held in Europe, that are shown here on KZitem, than what I ever saw in all my years with the original Can-Am series.

@@bloqk16 I highly doubt anyone really cares about wheel to wheel racing in can am. The point of can am, as a massive fan of these cars, seems to be appreciating the insanity and engineering of the cars, rather than the racing. Plus the fact that it was the only unlimited series in recent history makes it extremely unique. I really dont care about wheel to wheel racing in can am, but im absolutely facinated at the stressed engine mclarens and 1200hp porsche turbos, massive aero and advanced suspension. Compared to the f1 cars of the day, these were literal spaceships. I know a lot of people who really wish they would be able to see these cars race in period full tilt. Just hearing them would be amazing. There's a video of a mclaren m8f on road atlanta passing a lmp2 car on the straight, and its badass.

@@garnicholson74 Although I could be mistaken, I think all the Can-Am big-blocks were aluminum. I read an interesting article just yesterday about the history of Can-Am engines. The iron big-blocks were too heavy for Can-Am. Chevy developed an aluminum version in 1967 for racing that was in the Chaparral 2G. Later, other teams acquired engines of their own.
@garnicholson74
4 жыл бұрын
@@jamesaron1967 That makes sense, the early Lola T70, McLaren M1 etc. were production based small block, usually Chevy built by Traco or Al Bartz up to about 400ci (occaisionally Ford if a customer preferred), over that I think some people used the larger capacity iron big-blocks but as you say these were just too heavy for the power gain achieved. Always wondered where these mythical all-ally BB V8s came from.
