Gary, you Sir, are a MacBook genius. You are so helpful. You give such a detailed explanation of how things work. I am just above computer-friendly. With your videos, I am improving, a little bit at a time. Whenever I run into something that is complex about my MacBook, I just “Go to Gary”. It’s my best option. I love your channel. Thanks for all the help! Peace.

I especially appreciate the tip about using the keyboard shortcut for "Help" as a way to get to the menu bar. I never seem to be able to recall the Fn key to access it. The Help shortcut is easier (for me, anyway) to remember. Thanks!

Very good overview of the help function, far better than what I thought it would be. For a future video could you do one on the best way to setuo external drives if files have to be shared with windows. I have an iMac with the intel chip and use exfat to formal the external drives and all works well, but a few people I know using the "M" series chips have experienced problems where the files could not be seen on the mac but still visible in windows.

ExFAT is the way, yes. Not sure what problem those people have been having. But I wouldn't use a drive like this today. If you need to move files between Mac and Windows today I would use local networking or a cloud service instead.

Hi Gary. I always learn something new from you. Question though. If you want to change to a different shortcut combination, is there a way to determine if a way to terming if it is already in use? I don't want to accidentally steal a combination away from something else. Thanks in advance.

No. But it is easily corrected if you do that. If it is the keyboard combo for an obscure command that you never use in a certain app, then it doesn't matter. But if you find that something doesn't work and it dawns on you that it is because you reassigned that shortcut, then you can just go in and choose another at that point. No harm done.

As always a very useful overview, but BTW: As the system settings show, the keyboard shortcut for the help menu is Command-Shift-/, not Command-Shift-?. On non-US keyboards „/„ might be assigned to another key. E.g. on a German keyboard you have to press Command-Shift-7 (/ = Shift 7). It is funny, that Apple in its German documentation also claims, that the corresponding keyboard shortcut is Command-Shift-? - but this does not work.

Right. There are many different non-English keyboards with variations on how things work.

Hi Gary I live in an area prone to electricity outages. I work from home and I'm thinking of buying a power station to plug my mac Mini & 2 monitors in to whilst constantly charging the power station so I would have a immediate & reliable power source in the event of an outage. As an outage would also interrupt the wifi, do you have any advice on how to set my mac Mini to automatically switch to 5g on my iPhone until the wifi has reset? Thank you.

Automatically? No. You'll just need to switch over when you need it.
