I have ridden dirtbikes for over 20 years, I bought an ebike for several reasons. I don't have to mix gas to clean out carbs. I can go on a ride from my home to a trail without any issues. It's another vehicle I can take nearly anywhere. Most people and cops don't care. I have put over 1600 miles on it so far and most of my replacement parts are simply upgrades or basic wear and tear. I haven't fired up my Dual sport 350 since I've owned it.

Basically every bike rider of any kind should ride as if all cars are tryingcto kill you! Another huge reason ebikes are better than motor bikes is, maintenence, maintenence, maintenence, you don't got spark plugs, oil changes, valve adjustment, carburetor adjustment, timing adjustment, You basically oil chain fill tires replace brake pads, maybe bleed brakes!

I solved my overheating issues by adding 2 USB fans to the controller. One on the controller, and one sucking in the fresh air. The original design was to have the controller mounted outside of the frame, It needs better airflow for harder riding conditions. If you are just riding it around town it's fine, but going up hills or on sandy trails it quickly climbs over 160 degrees.

You're getting far better weight to performance ratio in ebikes now as opposed to gas. Which is only getting better. Also currently can ride ebikes on the street without issue if you're not being wild. Granted if you're looking to freestyle, definitely go with gas. These can't handle sending it off a 35ft booter.

Came back to eat my words, many ebikes have followed in surrons footsteps with mid-drive so now the market is huge with ebikes you can stunt. Now owning two surrons and waiting on my eride SS. You can absolutely stunt these. Hot take, many times I have more fun on the surrons than my MT07. Also stunting at night on ebikes you aren't bothering anyone with noise. 🤙

Off Alibaba, I sourced a 15kW 72V 75Ah for $3K USD (shipping included - expected range is 60 to 90 miles). Prices have dropped! Is your controller mounted directly to the frame? Thermal paste may help with heat. Even adding a couple openings on your side panels would go a long way. I would suggest adding fins to the rear frame to push air over the hub motor as well. Managing heat will add to your longevity. Hitting your thermal shutoff on hills means your controller is likely +85C. The thermal stress on components at this temperature while riding (applying shock) isn't great by any means. As the board heats up it will expand, as it cools down it will contract which stresses every single part and every solder joint... Great video! Thank you for posting!

50amps is a nice start if you've never ridden motorcycles. I recommend 80 amps for good fun. It will get you to 50mph or so depending on motor windings and tires. 150amps is where the real fun begins but a chinese battery will need to be upgraded.
