Already 10 minutes in and the wisdom is unreal especially the Holy Spirit speaking through to catch my attention in your opening with “this is for you if you are anxious, lost, without direction and especially if you just want to know be told what to do.”😊

Offering up masses is good too. I really need prayer and graces because I'm trying so hard to fight this addiction to food and lose weight but it just ain't working even if I starve myself or eat less, the weight just won't budge. The temptations are just too hard to fight off especially when I'm feeling like garbage. I don't know what's wrong and there's too many 'doctors' saying "do this/take that/your body won't burn fat because x" it's so confusing and ambiguous.... please pray for me that Jesus helps me lose this stinkin' weight already xD lol thanks.

I can totally relate to this. You get really comfortable when you find something good to do to the other person. Offer a seat or some food, or drink, or find compliment to give to the other person.

Brother, thank you so much for this information. I respect and really value your advice far greater than any of these “redpill-Andrew Tate-pick up artist-Alfa-sigma-wanting a traditional wife but I refuse to put Christ first” types.

I’m only 4 minutes in but it’s great so far! Similar to the first piece of advice, in conversation it’s extremely helpful for me to remember NOT just to spend time thinking about the next thing I wanna say and crafting it perfectly, but stopping my own thoughts and actually listening to what the other is saying

Having social skills, competence, confidence, self control over fear, mastery over vices, humility, self blame for not doing better when bad things happen, a healthy looking physique, abandonment to God's will, total self sacrifice are ideals. Many people have real problems in their life circumstances and with their mental health. The two feed on each other, making things worse. They can have poor coping skills for life's problems, and life's problems can break people mentally. The saying that 'if it doesn't kill you, it makes you stronger' isn't always true. Often stress mentally disables. God is present, yet bad things happen to people and overwhelm them. There aren't quick fixes for those problems in their lives outside themselves, and for their personal problems inside themselves. Most men will fall short of these ideal goals. Don't set up men for failure with ideal goals. Good enough is good enough when someone needs the grace or understanding at the moment when they feel like a failure. High standards are better than low standards, but there is a higher risk of failure when holding high standards than when holding low standards. If you have low standards, you are less likely to fail, but you don't get as far. If you have high standards, then you will more likely fail, but you will still get further, unless the failure leads to dejection and you give it all up. So, when having high standards like the virtues of courage, manliness, fortitude, confidence, competence, temperance, humility, wisdom, prudence, justice, truthfulness, honesty, integrity, etc, you must also have as your highest standards sympathetic understanding, forgiveness, and grace for yourself and for others when you and they fail. Otherwise you will become hypercritical of yourself and others, or become morally scrupulous, or become dejected, or become deprecating of self and others. There are times to give yourself and others a break otherwise you'll have a mental break. There is a time and season for everything under heaven. The pharisees laid heavy burdens on the people without lifting a finger to help them. They strained for gnats and swallowed camels, tithing mint and dill, yet neglecting justice and mercy. Under exacting law, they lacked grace. Christ cried out to those burdened and heavy laden to come to him because his yoke was easy and his burden was light for he was meek and gentle of heart. It's better to be moral than immoral, but it's not good to be moralistic. It's better to be righteous than unrighteous, but it's not good to be self righteous. It's better to be holy than unholy, but it's not good to be sanctimonious. In the book of Ecclesiastes it says something interesting. In general, it speaks of virtue as the mean between the extremes of vices. At one point it advises not to become too moral or righteous. I think it means not to become moralistic or self righteous which is taking a virtue to the extreme. High or idealistic standards can be taken too far to the extreme. Jesus had high standards, yet he taught and practiced charity, mercy and forgiveness, ie, grace. In the sermon on the mount he taught to have pure intentions, yet he also taught that it's ok to forgive others for self interested reasons. In the parable the steward who forgave his master's debtors part of their debts, he was praised for his prudence. I heard what he forgave was his own commission. If we forgive, we are forgiven. Though idealistic, the peace prayer of St. Francis sums it up nicely. Having good will, acting in good faith, and putting good effort into what we do is good enough. If we fail, then it was due to circumstances outside ourselves, outside our control. The servant given only 5 talents wasn't expected to earn 10 more talents like the servant given 10, and he was praised for his additional 5 talents. The servant given 1 talent wasn't expected to earn 5 more talents. Earning interest would have been good enough, yet he didn't have good will, he didn't act in good faith, and he didn't put good effort into the 1 talent he was given. He didn't try and fail. Had he, he would have been forgiven. He simply failed to try. There's a time and season for everything under heaven. Sometimes in poor times, earning interest is good enough. When the seasons of life improve, then earning an additional 1 or 5 or 10 talents are in order. The Serenity Prayer is realistic.

@@CameronRiecker Don't worry about it. It's just my venting an opinion. I fail too often with respect to the ideals of Christianity. It gets me down when I do. I can't live up to Christ. On the one hand I wish I could believe in a lower standard. On the other hand, I don't want to give up on his teachings because I don't think I and most Christians really understand how they can transform us for good. I don't feel as if I'm getting the guidance from him as I fumble my way through life which has beat me down too often. I've lost faith in life and people who make life worse. I wonder if I ever had faith in God. You see, when you go through bad times and doubt God, well, some how you're to blame for your lack of faith. Maybe you're to blame for the bad times. You should have more faith, then things would go better. You're to blame for his unresponsiveness in helping you. You're to blame for not handling the circumstances better. And if you don't forgive those who screw you over, well, you're to blame for that also. There's no consolation under the burden of a law mentality which tells you how far short you've missed the mark or sinned. Sin, sin, sin. Let's beat ourselves down more for missing the mark and falling short yet again. Is Christ a lawyer or a healer? Would you rather stand naked before a judge or a doctor? Yet healing is long in coming and you wonder whether it's due to your lack of faith, so you self judge. God's putting you through yet another trial to teach you something the hard way. There's got to be a better way than yet more pain.
