Well Delta DOES enforce the "noxious smell" issue. Especially on international flights. Recently, we had a passenger boarding in Tokyo -- some young guy who'd been backpacking all over Asia. We could smell him in the boarding area. Captain & Purser told the gate agents -- "NO -- he's not coming with us on a 13 hour flight". They got him a hotel room, arranged to have his clothes cleaned, put him on a later flight. He was actually pretty cool about it.

The guy next to me had such strong body odour 🤢 the whole 3 by 3 of chairs of people were gagging and coughing. Every time a flight attendant walked by, they turned their face to the other side to breathe the other air. It was an 8-9 hour flight across the ocean and I just came off a 14 hour flight prior and 4 hours bus before that. When I came home, The smell stuck to my phone, even after I washed and disinfected my phone twice. He didn’t touch it but the smell stuck. They need to have this rule and smell check. My flight home from Detroit was delayed taking off and I was worried about catching my connecting flight in Newark (EWR). I was running to get to my gate as the wind outside was picking up. I came panting up to the gate, only to find that the flight to DCA was delayed by weather. Time ticked past and the New Jerseyites and the New Yorkers were getting more and more short tempered, as if the airline could control the weather. People were going up to the gate agent, saying "I'd better be d'md sure that I get on this blankety-blank flight!" or "How much longer is this f'kng delay gonna take?" Finally, the departure time was announced. The gate agents were getting an earful, since the passengers from a cancelled flight were being added to ours. When it was my turn, I smiled and said to the gate agent sympathetically, "Wow, you're really having a rough time." "Tell me about it." he answered. I then showed him my airline employee pass form and said, "I understand what my status is (at the bottom of the priority list), and I appreciate whatever you can do for me." My hope was that he could get me on the next possible flight. He looked at my form for a second, seemed to decide about something and said, "Just wait to the side here." I did. He picked up a phone and started calling names, running through the list fairly quickly. A number of people had already abandoned that flight to try to move onto other flights. Finally, mine was the last name called and I got a seat at the very back of the plane...next to the flight attendants jump seats. When the plane left the gate, we had another long delay, waiting for takeoff. I was chatting with the flight attendants who commented on my "bad" seat. I said that I was grateful just to be aboard because my arriving flight had come in so late. We got chatting about the airline-owned company that I worked for, which most of them had never heard of. When we finally took off, they announced over the intercom that due to the shortness of the flight, since they were trying to make up for the delay, no snack or beverage service was going to be offered. A nice flight attendant, hearing about the delay of my flight from Detroit, gave me an extra crew meal in a box with a sandwich, carrot sticks, cookies, and drink which I discreetly ate tucked in at the back of the plane. What has started out as a very worrisome, stressful day, ended up being a great experience because I was nice to the gate agent and flight crew by distinguishing myself from the more entitled paying passengers.

It pays off to be nice. Especially to people who really can't help a shitty situation. Getting angry with them helps no one. Last weekend our flight was delayed almost 2 hours by the time we finally took off. The poor pilots, several crews, had worked hard throughout the day to bring it down from the 5 hours of delay that same plane had had earlier that day. Thankfully no one pitched a fit. But it was 2:15am when we should have left at 12:30am. So understandably everyone was tired and I was struggling not to be too snappish with my parents when they tried to force feed me after midnight, because all I wanted was to go home and sleep.

Not my own experience, but I saw a family get deboarded because their disabled daughter had relieved herself in the seat. I'm going to preface this with the fact that they were rebooked on a later flight to give them time to clean up in the washroom. The father came off cursing at the airline, accusing them of being discriminatory towards disabilities, and threatening to sue. I felt bad for the girl, but had no sympathy for that father. This girl was PARALYZED. She could barely move and had to be carried on and off the plane with special equipment. If you have a family member with a disability of that nature, you should already know that if they cannot control their own bodies, they most certainly cannot control their bladders. Even my grandmother, who is perfectly capable of walking to a bathroom herself, admits that she puts on a diaper before long haul flights, just in case she cannot get to a washroom in time. It's odd to think that someone living with a paralyzed daughter would lack that bit of common sense. I'm not asking you to apologize for something she can't control, but it's the least you could do to get your daughter out of a pool of her own excrement and cleaned up, no? Even on a 2 hour flight, sitting in her own urine could cause all sorts of infections, not to mention the biohazard it would be to all the other passengers sitting in their vicinity. What I saw that day was a man who didn't seem to care about anything except how taking a later flight would mess up his own schedule. He made it sound like he was mad for his daughter's sake, and correct me if I'm wrong, but most parents would be more concerned for their child's health in that situation, no? If this was my family, I'd be the one speaking up and asking to get off and take another flight before I'm even asked to come off. How could one even fathom leaving their own family member to sit in a soiled seat like that, and for hours!

The too big one remind me of that one problem that southwest airlines made. Basically, the overweight lady, around 300 or 400 lbs goes on a plane but however she was too big enough to fit one seat and she felt unconfortable. So she decided to complain about that and she asked for 3 seats due to fat privilege. The worst part was that when they arranged 3 free seats for her, the airline literally kicked out a mother and the daughter and her friend. They were furious when they heard they got kicked out as they have to stay in one of the airport which has not enough facility. What's worst is that the plane ticket cost around 270 dollars per person and didn't get any refund due to fat privilege. I hope they get their right to sue the airline company ❤❤

I had to ask for a seatbelt extender for the first time when flying to Portland with my mom in 2019, and I was kinda embarrassed since she often chides me about my weight. Thankfully I am a little more ok with it now. The only awkward situation I've had since on a plane was on a flight home from Philadelphia. Since it was a 5 1/2 hour direct flight, I had paid extra to get a seat with extra legroom. That seat happened to be in the emergency exit row (that's just how the premium seat distribution was...there were ones not in that row, but I prefer being further back in the plane for some reason). Anyway, because of this I had to stow my carry-on in the overhead bin during takeoff and landing for safety reasons, even though it was small enough to normally not need to be stowed (the flight attendants informed me of this once I was on board...this particular plane had a rather wide exit row, with no seats directly in front of it, just a bulkhead with a bathroom in it, and a fold-down seat on the wall for the attendants to sit on during takeoff and landing). I had no problem with this, but I had no way of knowing at what point after take-off I could safely retrieve it (I think I had not taken my electronics or anything out, so I couldn't even read or play games to pass the time). So I had to ask a flight attendant. Thankfully they were pretty cool about it. (I'm still nervous about having to stow my CPAP machine in the overhead bin during an upcoming trip, since what I've read says you should carry it on the plane with you, even if you're not going to use it on the plane [you can somehow use them on a plane apparently; you just can't use the humidifier part]. I have a carrying bag for it, but I've never traveled with it before. The carrying bag is also a black messenger bag, so I'll probably put an identifying key chain on it or something so I recognize it).

On the military commercial flight overseas we had one guy that had natural body odor. We actually had a look out in the shower to make sure he used soap. But maybe he didn't know how to wash. We never inquired about that.

I remember the time I was on a flight and there is a person who is pregnant and they had a note saying they were only 2 weeks but I swear they looked like. They were really really pregnant. So so I was really confused until we found out it was fake and they were Escorted off the plane.

Airlines really should have a reasonable dress code. Like cover the torso and upper legs and don’t have obscenities written on your clothing. That’s all that should be asked. You don’t need to put on a suit and tie or a nice dress. Just be decent

I used to have to buy an extra seat on the airlines that require it, Because I can't fit in anything but first class, which I can now afford. I'm 6'5" tall, weigh 255lbs with about 7-8% body fat and have large frame (think NFL Tight End or Linebacker), and can't get any thinner. I'm okay with this because I'm the freak nature trying to fit in something average people struggle with.

And, adding to the "no shoes, no boarding" rule, they need to add, "Do NOT take your shoes off during the flight, especially if you belong to the Stinky Feet Club! You may not care, but the rest of the Passengers, and the Crew, sure as heck do!!!
@kray3883

@@SilverAuntieIME it's people who wear shoes all the time who have stinky feet. There's no reason for your feet to smell any worse than your hands except that you close them up in a petri dish all the time.
@SilverAuntie

@@kray3883 Exactly the reason NOT to take your shoes off!😝 When I fly, I try to wear sandals, if possible. If you've been working all day, once you get to the airport, go into a stall in the restroom. I always carried sandals on my carry-on. Take the stinky shoes off and out them in a gallon ziplock baggy with a couple of dryer sheets (or, if you look ahead of time, get a travel size Lysol or other odor eliminator. Give a spray, and done!). Problem solved!
@kray3883

@@SilverAuntie I'm so confused. You don't want people to take their shoes off but you're recommending sandals as an alternative?
@SilverAuntie
22 күн бұрын
@@kray3883 Well, yes. The sandals are open, so the feet shouldn't sweat. The shoes I'm suggesting you take off are closed shoes: loafers, pumps, etc., especially those shoes that people wear without socks, that usually get smelly from not airing them out in between wearings. And, besides subjecting the plane to your foot odor, you have to think... How often do you think they clean the carpeting in those planes? And, people think it's okay to walk around shoeless?!? Ew!!

Bad smells... I wished the man that I had the seat next to would have been denied! I happened to get another seat in the more than full plane from Dubai to Frankfurt. Thanks to the Flight Attendant who told me that she expected the person whoever got the seat next to him would ask to be removed. Then why on earth did they let him board???? This guy has not been near water, soap or a shower in weeks, not to speak of deodorant. 🤮🤮🤮

Yawning works best. I learned over time to stretch the muscles that are stimulated when you need to yawn. It basically opens up the Eustachian tube which equalises the difference in air pressure between the internal ear and airways. I heard pilots doing this too.
