This is ABSOLUTELY the worst video for a trainer that thinks treats can fix any bad behavior! That's a big strong dog (Anatolian shepherd/st. Bernard mix if I had to guess) . That dog will drag anyone not paying attention off kilter .No time for treats, getting under control with super mild corrections, repetition and desensitization AND Verbal POSITIVE reinforcement. We can all see where the dog is like "oh, I can't do that anymore?" Then starts checking in with everyone handling the leash. This is awesome. BE.THE. BOSS. Also, you'll notice at the beginning Joel has the "am I too much glasses on" . He's more intense in the beginning because the dog is much worse than the end, then the shades come off when Joel doesn't need to be "as much", just a lil more chill bro. Dog better=Joel more chill / no glasses. LMAO

I've never hurt my dog and I never would...this video shows me that I don't need to strangle my dog with medieval devices. I just massage their responses as needed. I knew this was possible... this channel appears to confirm it.

Fantastic stuff. Following these rules by Beckman, changed my anxious and very dominant rescue dog, from being unable to get within 50ft or so to a dog without massive leash reactivity, to now meeting and smelling over 30 dogs. With some large male dogs, he can show some leash reactivity still, but with a few slight corrections and a slow introduction, he is able to meet and greet them. He is more or less a changed dog, thanks to your methods Beckman. 😀

Mr. Beckman. I have to say that your method for walking has been a game changer. Our rescue pittie was a pulling nightmare. After watching many vids of yours and getting the corrections down she is a different dog. She didn’t respond to treats initially so that’s how I ended up watching your videos. Still a work in progress , but she’s getting it. The lightbulb moment was when my wife did her first correction on her. It was like a switch went off. She was pulling like crazy in petsmart and one correction from her and it changed. So thank you so much.

You're nearly to a half million subs!,👍🏼👍🏼 You provide the best dog training content I've ever seen and you are doing a noble work, actually helping people. Thanks. I wanted to inform you that KZitem is suppressing your channel in the search algorithms. Wanting to share your puppy training videos, I did a quick search on KZitem with this exact search query ["BD Training" puppies"] and not one of the results were from your channel. Maybe whoever uploads the videos needs to add key word searches or maybe there's another way to trigger the algorithms, but as popular as your channel has become, you should be in the top 5 results, especially when quoting your channel name in the search bar. Your channel would (and should) be much more popular than it is currently.

She had one litter of puppies, so she has the motherly instincts, if a new dog comes into my house I take two to three weeks to desensitize them to each other with a crate in the middle of the living room and one in the bedroom for at night. It requires some extra work but all pups are safe and I get to establish who the boss is with the new pup over a little time prior to introducing out with the pack. My highly socialized dog who, like Brutus, started growling and snapping at dogs at 1.5 yo. She is 4 yo now. I've been telling people she's been in leash training for all her life and she's 4 yo. What I'm actually saying is I've used practically all the leash training techniques there are on KZitem and other sources and every single time she's been able to figure it out and make it ineffective. So the growling snarling and snapping continues. I now only use your method of leash training and finally she's behaving much better during the walks as long as we don't come across other dogs. When this happens she still snarls and growls and snaps. I have started trying behavior training her. I've used many methods to try to get her to interact with the dogs in a friendly manner. Despite my efforts she still has to snap at dogs when they're more than 2 seconds doing the butt handshake. I need a way to distract her in the dog park from snapping at dogs for no good reason. Any suggestions?
@Flippokid
8 ай бұрын
Correct the snarls, growls and snaps. Butt-flip, leash pop, grab-in-the-neck-and-sit... whatever it takes. When your dog does something you deem unacceptable, you step in and show her who's boss. But then let her try again. That's easier said than done, because most people will just go away when a dog snaps like that. Find people with dogs that are willing to work with you on this.

@@Flippokid TY for the advice. I did try the gentle leader to turn her head but she just falls down on the ground now and won't get up when it's on her. My fault though. I didn't put it on correctly the first time and it was far too tight. Now she's petrified of it. You're right as long as I have her on leash I can do as you suggest but she'll do this in the dog parks off leash as well. I talk to her sternly telling her not to get mean and snap but she still will. I guess I have to pull her out of the situation or something when she's not on leash. She has never bit anyone nor any dog except when she was teething like puppies normally do.

It depends on what you mean by highly socialized.Most people get that wrong. Going to dog parks or letting every person walking by pet your dog or every dog walking by meet your dog does not build the trust aspect of your relationship. The dog feels it must defend itself. Teaching the dog that you will advocate for it so it doesn’t have to deal with all these unwanted situations will make her to be neutral. My intact male livestock guardian (dominant and skeptical of predators and people as he should be) can go anywhere with me around stupid people and unbalanced dogs behaves perfectly because I’ve made it clear he can trust me. He’s totally fulfilled without meeting dogs or people he prefers his pack.

@@kryptdoh1878 Ah, when off leash you can mark (I use OY!) and go grab her. The mark makes it clear she's doing something wrong at that exact moment, and the go grab is the punishment. Not just grab, you sit her ass down and give her a talking to. Make sure the energy in your hand is firm, not painful. It takes a few repetitions for her to start to understand. It's important that you let her try again after a moment of punishment, otherwise the learning goes way slower. It's important to stay fair, if the other dog is the instigator you can't punish her for standing up for herself. But by the sound of it it's yours.

I'll never understand why people think that the GENTLE leader is ok to yank on and go the opposite direction. Do you not think cranking on a dog's neck will possibly cause damage? Why not use a prong collar with a strong dog like this and use less force for correcting while minimizing possible damage? Not trying to complain and I usually appreciate the videos, however, I think it's teaching these uneducated people that it's ok to use this tool in that way. Seems irresponsible.
@Flippokid

I had those concerns with my dog. I had to correct him really hard for months until he started to get it, and when I asked the vet if he could see anything wrong there was nothing at all. Dog's necks are quite strong. Their structure isn't like ours, where a sudden yank can cause a whiplash. The yank's force is distributed over the rest of its body. When a dog is pulling continuously on a gentle leader it can strain its neck muscles, but other than that there's really no empirical evidence that gentle leaders are damaging to dogs.
@FAFObozo
8 ай бұрын
@@Flippokid that's called antecdotal evidence and I appreciate your response, however, common sense will tell you that torquing any animal's neck by suddenly pulling on their nose while they're going the opposite direction can result in injury. This is not what the gentle leader was designed for and isn't how it's supposed to be used. Dog's necks are quite strong but they are similar to ours in that they have vertebrae and nerves that can be damaged as well as facial structure bones that can be damaged from the harness digging in. Fortunately, your dog wasn't injured but that's not a definitive example.
