Pow! That'll save a lot of money paid to the swear jug, for sure.

I'm replacing my exhaust manifold driver side and the tube is in the way to one of the nuts....can I just pop it out a little and then it won't leave the oil pan...so I can just put it right back in with no trouble?

Hey man, I know this is off topic but you seem to be the only person that’s knowledgeable with 99-04 mustang 3.8 engines so I figured I’d shoot my shot. I have a code for misfire on cylinder 5. The problem occurred one month after changing the head gasket (technically all the gaskets since it came as a pack). I’ve ruled everything out and changed all parts. The recent parts I’ve replaced are spark plugs, coil wires, fuel injectors, and upstream O2 sensor. No vacuum leaks, and good compression. When I recently replaced my upstream O2 sensors, the misfire went away for about 53 miles of driving and it came back today. When I did my fuel injectors it went away for 300 miles. I want to say it’s the coilpack but I’m not sure. When I pull the wire on cylinder number 1 it doesn’t misfire yet there’s spark, every other cylinder misses when I pull the wire out. Any thoughts? Only thing I could think of is a bad pcm. 2002 mustang 3.& 199, 563k miles

So there is no possible way to get it out without the motor being out

I was able to get my tube out w/o the motor being out. But getting it back in is what I'm not sure about. I might have to cut the tube.

Tried putting it back today. Unsuccessful so far. I might have to loosen the header and/or raise the driver side motor.

It's possible to get it out and in without this but it's fxing ridiculous. Spent 3 hours inserting a tube trying diffrent angles until it got the chop bc I'm not lifting the motor and removing brake booster just to put the tube in lol

@@MustangV6TechSupport I actually managed to get the tube back in without having to cut the tube or raise the motor. I DID loosen the header, and I DID have to re-bend the tube a bit. I lubed the tube with oil and used an LED light to locate the hole. Took about 20 minutes of maneuvering and pushing and it went in. This was a few months ago. I have since driven the car and was very relieved to not hear any clicking sounds.

Also loosen your headers a bit and it gets the tube straighter to push it in

Won't this make the dip stick wire sag a bit when checking oil and cause the oil to look fuller than it is? The stick is coming in at an angle and it's pretty flexible. Also, what about the seal? Is there an o-ring on the end of that? Wondering how you prevent oil from leaking out where the end of the tube is inserted.

No it doesn't effect checking oil level. Works great years later, doesn't effect the o ring. You will see when you insert the dipstick its really hard to do without breaking it and any other option is usually necessary. This is just a path of least resistance

Can you please do a complete tear down of your 4.2. You don't have to literally tear it down, just tell us what is inside the block and heads.

theorectically how much would you charge for an engine like this?

I did this hack and after a bit the tip of my dipstip broke off inside the motor. Will it drain out next time I change my oil? I plan on looking inside the oil pan with a scope if it does flow to the drain hole.

Does have to be bent to stay down u might have reinserted in the reverse way or something. if done and reinserted correctly it doesn't interfere with the crank. This also works on 4Vs. There is a screen inside the v6 oil pickup tube that would stop this from being sucked up into the sender into the engine, also not big enough to block flow so you can rest easy on that aspect. Probally won't damage anything either. Its probally sitting in the bottom of sump chillin with 50/50 if it comes out without pan removal.

I bought another stick. It also bend, so I trimmed it at the first hole in the stick. Doesn't bend anymore and gets an oil read at min all the way to max. I'm good. Broken tip probably will drain out in my next change. I do it myself and I will screen it and look up in the drain hole. But the tube trim did work!
