My teenagers did Japanese from Zero all levels and they loved it. It’s affordable on Amazon. I believe it’s 30ish dollars but I just saw it’s on sale for $24. My older kids have graduated since then but still highly recommend that curriculum to others.

Their high school is the only level that doesn’t break it up by lesson #. They give you a suggested amount of time each day so I just plan to start with that and see how it goes and then if he needs help figuring out where to get to by the end of the week I’ll help him map it out!

Typing from the GB is great, affordable and does the job! Again my teenagers (who have already graduated) did all levels and my son especially can type at lightning speeds (90ish wpm) but he’s a computer science major. My daughter sits comfortably at 45-50 wpm. I recommend.

We love TGTB L.A.! We have used levels 1 through HS 1. My son just completed HS 1. The only thing I don't really like about the HS level is not having each lesson planned out, but it doesn't take much time to schedule out each lesson.

I really struggle with TGATB... I want so much to like it, but we used it for 4th grade and his reading comp actually fell drastically behind. I'm anxious to hear how you feel about the hs level at the end of the year. I'm trying to look ahead to what I'm using for daughter in a couple of years. All three of my kids loved the Chronicles of Narnia. I have a hs credential in Eng as well so books and LA get a big chunk of our time. I'm totally looking into the Dave Ramsey program for both my teens.

Oh man, that’s a tough one! I wonder if it could be that it focused more on the other elements of English Language Arts, while his previous experience was more focused on reading comprehension? Level 7 can be used for HS L.A. I've seen several people mention that level 7 is a little more challenging than HS 1. After going through HS 1 this year with my son, I believe it is. If you don't mind some textbook use, Genki 1 is an awesome into to Japanese. You'd need to break it up slowly, but learning a new writing system (well, 3 of them) is never fast.
