A great week of training. I think those k reps impacted your race, but it will still give you a strong training stimulus. Slowing those easy runs down will really help you recover. Great video 👍

I think you’re right. And the day before the k reps I did a 20 mile run (which was in the previous video) so I probably didn’t give it the respect it deserved.

Sky Paris is a beast. Vaporfly is very similar with less protection. But both of them loses the magical roll up that Sky v1 or Vaporfly Next v1 gives. GREAT CHANEL 😊

Great video Duncan thanks for sharing again!. Got a question for you, if you are gunning for sub 2:30 in the Marathon after 50yrs old, what do you think is a reasonable target for an old geezer like myself if I am 65yrs old? I might do one last marathon next year , my first one was in 1983, 2nd in 1993 and ..maybe 2025 , I need a big buildup as you know, its a lot harder when we are older. Many thanks, , from Duncan, BC

I think it depends on your lifetime best. Mine is 2:26 so the idea was to see if I could get back to that level of fitness. I think I can. (But I haven’t yet!). 65 is a whole new ball game. I think finishing any marathon and staying fit and active at 65 is the win itself. So many people aren’t. So kudos to you already. Did you have a time in mind?

Thanks for you comment and thanks for coming along for the ride. I’d definitely recommend finding someone to run with. It makes it so much easier. And holds you accountable (try bailing on a session with someone else there!) I have a full time job and kids. So it does take some working around. But I just make it a priority. There are days I can’t do what I wanted of course. But I usually find time even if it means getting up at 5am (which I hate doing!) I remember reading an article once where the author said “if I gave you $1,000 every time you went on a run, you’d find time”. I always think about that and make sure that it’s planned into my day. It’s never perfect. But sometimes it just has to be good enough. :)

A VO2 max of 72? Lol, wow
@global-runner
3 ай бұрын
That’s what the watch says. It may not be accurate but it’s the same watch I wore in my last build and I only got to 70 in that build. So even if 72 is not accurate, it shows I’m fitter than I was in my last build. Good news!

@@global-runner That's still a super human number though. The closest I've ever gotten was 54 about 2 years (which is around the time I picked up any injury). I needed change my training and focus easy paced running instead to avoid any flare ups. I'm 40 years old now and my VO2 max is currently on 47
@global-runner

thanks for that comment. I really appreciate it. Your number is also really good and it sounds like you have been clever with your training. That’s definitely half the battle so good on you for doing that. I’ve been told my VO2 max is high which is always great to hear but then I ask myself whether that means I’m not mentally strong enough! :). Should I be faster with a number like that? And if so, am I not prepared to dig into the pain cave deep enough? I watched a Nick Bester video the other day and that dude can DIG. Maybe I need to dig more? (We’re never satisfied are we?). :)

@@global-runner You're already extremely fast for your age, so no need to dwell on things like that. It inspires that rest of us to keep pushing forward :) and yes, I've needed to be smarter with my training. I want running longevity, so I'm in it for the long haul.

@@global-runner72 is unreal. I’m 63 and my watch gives me a VO2 Max of 47. I did VO2 Max test with Buckingham New University and that came in at 46; so in my case at least the watch was accurate enough.

Don't become a workout warrior. Do lots of easy mileage with 3-4 easy days between sessions. For a sub 2:30 marathon at your age you need one long tempo run every month between now and your taper. Forget about 5 * 1k. Do 5 * 3k @ 3:35-3:40 with full rest. Then flip that to 3 * 5k @ the same pace. Maybe do a half at goal pace in your build up which should feel controlled. Wish you luck.

This is good advice. Thanks for commenting and thanks for following along. My running friend said exactly the same thing to me the other day. I’m in the speed phase of training. I’m trying to get fast so that I can handle low 5 min/mile (low 3 min/km) which should make 5:42 (3:32), which is MP, feel easier. That’s the theory anyway…
@global-runner

Oh and I didn’t really highlight it very well in the video but I did do 5 x 9 minutes at about 5:50 (3:37?) pace which is along the lines of the sessions you were suggesting!
@shanegill5091

Ok. I had a look at your programme. Looks ok. Your race strategy of negative split is perfect. Just for your taper week you need more rest and less sessions. Objectively speaking, I think you can achieve your goal.
