A trick I used back in the 2 Stroke days to maintain a tight cylinder to piston clearance, especially with Wiesco pistons, was to chuck the piston up in the lathe, and lightly groove or knurl the piston skirts almost up to the bottom of the wrist pin. The grooves worked as oil retention, and helped minimize the expansion that caused them to seize. The pistons were always polish sanded wet in the parts washer with 600 grit after machining to eliminate any sharp edges, and maintain the original OD.

Gas tank can be cut to whatever configuration - you’ll need donor plastic from another similar tank , soldering iron and “weld” the donor plastic where needed. Seal all is good stuff too worth having in the toolkit … 77” inches of snow ❄️ here by Lake Erie

I wouldn't cut that gas tank, I'd use a precision temp variable flow heat gun with a wide tip to soften it and bend it inward until carb clears. less likely to crack or leak imo. test temp and airflow on that carb plate that's same age and density plastic

Mr. Drake I have never welded a plastic gas tank on a chain saw but I have welded a plastic tank on a Husqvarna lawn mower. It's held up great for over two years. I would be willing to bet it's the same process on a chainsaw tank. I would be honored to discuss the process I used with you if your interested. I've been watching for this build to come along. I had been contemplating something similar for a while now but I've been out of work for almost two years so I haven't had access to machine shop equipment. I'm in the process of trying to set up a shop now and would love to play around with a similar build. I believe even the 55mm 390 cylinder with a 38mm stroke would be a good saw at around 90cc but what heck 95cc sounds better. Lol

Make the tank out of sheet aluminum and tig weld the Reed block on top and nestle the whole thing down in the hole. Not sure how crazy you want to get but it’s worth a think! @@j.chrisbeck7492 I honestly haven't ran any and the biggest reason why is all of their bars I have seen have the hole punched in them out toward the tip and I have never liked a bar with a hole in it. They pack up with sawdust and bind up feeling sort of like a bent bar. If you are not cutting big trees constantly you may not notice it. As far as the chain goes I have heard good things but I can't say myself. If they do make bars without the hole in them I would like to try one for sure. I try anything once.... their is another discount company out there on amazon and ebay called "8ten". They make good chain, as good as Archer probably. I have one on my 550xp that I carry with me on the cutting machine right now. Hope this helps.

to repair / re configure the gas tank , cut it back to where you want it and then glue it back together with a product called "3m panel bond " ... if you do it properly it will not leak ever and is a permanent repair ...... i would clean the areas with lacquer thinner , and scuff with a red , 3m, scotch brite pad ..... it takes 24 hours for it to cure , but that can be sped up with a light application of heat from a heat gun
