Hey there buddy… Love ya Harvey!!! We ain’t as good as we once was… but we are as good once as we ever were!!!! I love that drag racer mentality buddy!!! Talk all the talk is nothing but talk… go grab your saw and walk that damn walk buddy!!!! WooHooo!!! I absolutely love tuning in to your channel for an all American Reality Check!!!! We ain’t them people who go around handing out participation trophies!!! Somebody’s a winner and somebody gotta be the looser! That’s a great chance to improve yourself!!! If you are winning all the time then you are competing in the wrong pond and need to step up your game!!! And if you never win then hopefully one day you will! There’s a lot that goes into it! In the harness horse game where I was raised… those first 5 finishes get paid… so we didn’t worry about winning… if we were third we were happy because there was a little something going towards the peanut butter fund!!! LMFFAO!!! I absolutely love this beastly build, Harv!!! A+++!!!! I absolutely am cut from the same cloth!!! Save your breath and go get your saw! When you smoke my build then you can talk all the crap about me you want… until then… shut your pie hole!!!! LMFFAO awesome stuff!!! That’s what I mention anytime I ever hear any kinda disrespect!!! There’s several Harvey built saw’s in video proof I’m thinking about a 372 that pulls a 48” bar!!!! LMFFAO!!! Like that’s a possibility in any other world but Uncle Harvey’s Saw Play Land!!!! It’s like a freaking amusement park, getting to hang around here…. LMFFAO!!!

I took an anemic ms270 that had burned the sparkplug threads out of it and built a 390 opened the restricted exhaust and fattened the carb up and she rips with a 20" bar. Problem I had with it turning more rpms than it was designed for I blew the ends out of the oil pump, so I now use straight 30w non detergent motor oil. I use 3/4 of a tank of oil to a tank of gas, instead of 1/2 a tank. I only get about 12-15 minutes of cut time but I get just as much done as a stock saw running 25 minutes. Now I have an old 311Y that I want to turn up and put a 28" bar on, but like you said it has to be a usable work saw that a guy can depend on, not wrench on. Great video

Have you ever tried "hot" cold blue? I add some cold blue to a pot of water.. boil it.. dunk my parts. Bring out, buff with DEGREASED steel wool.. dunk again until you get the color you are happy with. I've used it on axe heads that are work axes and it works a treat for corrosion resistance. Really seems to dig deep vs cold blue brush on, hair less pretty though, but fast deep and as consistent as your degrease job.

I watched this saw run on Buckins channel. Good work Ironhorse. The saw really rips. I'm a big fan of the 372 and built a few and the 375 now. I have a bottom end and I'm thinking about this as a build for myself. But I'm thinking I might make my own piston for a stock 390. It sounds like the 661 piston is not the best fit. If I made my own piston could I extend the skirt enough to get the intake timing right? I already have all the cylinder set out in CAD so I should be able to sort that out on the CNC. I was surprised how well that went and how good it looked. Thank you for going to the trouble to prove it can be done.

I would love this mod on my 2171, not sure if the more slim line plastics would work with taller cylinder and no high top aircleaner cover. Wish I had a reputable shop that can mod a saw nearby, but it's not the case. What is the cost to mod a saw like this rather than just going and buying a bigger cc saw? I know there is a weight difference and rpm performance when in a cut especially with bigger bars.

Needs that muffler gutted !!!! You need to remove the guts from the inside of it or if it’s possible just clamp it up onto a 2x4 that’s screwed down to a little 8x8 sheet of 3/4” plywood… you might just be able to use a 3/4” drill bit and go through the back and get in there and drill it out!!!! Or Grab a double cut carbide burr and get in there and grind it out and open! Just be sure that you use a good degreaser… a $1 buck can of dollar store oven cleaner works great) you gotta get that scrubbed super clean !!! Muffler’s have oil on their inter surface’s and that will grab and hold those little metal slivers!!! They can be sucked back into the cylinder while running and they will cause the engine to start to tear itself up! It’s got to be super clean anytime after grinding on it! Pop off the limiters on your carburetor so you can open up your high jet to richen it up after increasing the air flow! A simple little $10 dollar timing wheel will let you measure your timing numbers and you can determine if by changing those that you might gain some power! You are way better off finding you an older saw with some good displacement… 70cc or so and fixing it up!!! There’s only so much “porting” will increase your power output and you are making it harder on the bottom end bearings and things when you are pushing the engine! A big engine running 80% will run a super long time… a smaller engine running 120% won’t last nearly as long!!!! 😁👍
