I was wondering why i couldnt find anyone on KZitem with my particular edition. So Kult: Death is the Beginning is relatively rare. Nice to know.

You forgot the huge thing that happend after the panic. Toy stores stopped selling rpg games in sweden in the early 90's. It was extremly hard to find them unless you lived in a major city. Actually It was only one place in Uppsala ( swedens forth largest town ) that sold them in the mid 90's that I knew of and before every toystore sold DoD and even Kult. That was a huge blow..

The reason for the archetypes in 4E is because the game's built on the PBTA system where character classes are replaced by archetypes or "playbooks". They're not professions so much as they are broad narrative roles that your character embodies.

I'm in the U.S., and I have the original game, and the Metropolis expansion (perhaps some other Kult materials as well). I bought them here during the mid-1990s. Now I'm introducing myself adult kids to the new version of the game.

Just to be sure the information gets around: The regular edition of 4th Edition of KULT, the one you see in this video, comes with censored artwork. The uncensored version is the Kickstarter Edition you can still get from Helmgast. I myself hate any kind of censorship so this is a no-brainer for me, but in my opinion many of the pictures have also been censored in a very sloppy and careless way, like someone took a rubber and just erased the... parts you are not supposed to see. The difference between the censored and uncensored version is remarkable... There is a LOT of pictures being tempered with and some are missing completely.

I want the 4th edition in Swedish. The first rpg I played and the one thats stayed with me is EON (by Helmgast). I have all the edition and every book ever printed 😅 played EON since 1992. But Kult is great. However I have just played the 4th edition of Kult.

At that time Kult and many other games obviously had satanic or ritual things in them. And in the early 90's there was a huge satanic panic in sweden since Norwegian black metal and Swedish death metal was the thing kids listened to and well there were murders and church burnings connected to that... So roleplaying games ( and mortal combat like videogames and movies ) obviously was to blame. RPG was extremely huge in Sweden since arcades were banned ( for gambling and monetary reasons ) here and you could buy Kult in toy stores regardless of age until early 90's in Swede, so it was an easy target for politicians and adults in general Stating that it made kids satanic and evil. Basically parents didn't understand what the kids were doing and blamed the escalating violence/decadence in Sweden on the games.

Sure. Not all that different from what happened in North America in the 80’s. Of course, it all just made kids want to play it more. @@hnorrstrom

That was a bit of nostalgia. I played Kult in the early 90's here in sweden. I borrowed the books from a guy in the class as they was hard to get and my dad asked someone at his work to copy everything. I wonder what they was thinking. I still have the old rules on A4 papers in a binder. I actually thought that old hippie adventure was rather cool. It was made to some convention. But clearly most scenarios was just terrible back then. I do think I have most of the old Swedish Kult books and adventures in pdf files if you are interested. The new divinity lost rules was an anticlimax for me, although the old rules was not the best and silly at times they did however had a lot of cool items/weapons and disadvantages and advantages. The new ones are frustrating to me, very hard to understand and feels like it is just a bunch of special moves. More like a board game then a Kult game. A bit sad because I hoped for a modern Kult I would love. I think if I ever play Kult I would play it with the rules from "Things from the flood instead"

I use to have the second edition in English but I lost it, so I know the old rules. For me the new rules better fit the game but are very bad presented and that's a very common thing for a lot of pbta games. What you describe is what a lot of people feel/think when they first read the game (and it happens with a lot of pbta games), but at the table they play very well

@@alessandrotripodo5557 I think that's a fair take. A core issue I have with it, is that Divinity Lost doesn't feel like a good system for playing a game, it feels like directing a play. I'm really big on giving my players freedom, even in pre-written material.

@@alessandrotripodo5557 I'm glad you like it. I was put off by some lore changes, also. I really liked the original take on Jackals in stuff like "Legions Of Darkness". I am working with the PbtA take on the rules, because I see a serious capability for character driven stories in it.
