Hey Sean I think I mentioned a case that would definitely fit into these videos! There was young couple who wanted to marry in a courthouse before the big wedding. So one morning they went to the courthouse with one of their mothers and some family. They got married and were leaving the courthouse in their car. As pulling out they were hit and killed by a big truck. They were both killed instantly. The mothers and family saw!! There is an interview with the mom right after it happened

Hey, Sean! You do such a great job on these, presenting the facts with so much compassion and humanity. An interesting one to investigate would be the tragic story of "Lobster Boy" and his family. He was a man with a physical deformity, who spent his life working as a sideshow performer. He married and had children, some of whom inherited the deformity iirc; but unfortunately, he was violent with the family, and ultimately killed his wife. Of them all, his wife is the one with the most horrible fate; but I imagine there are probably fewer details known about her, than about Lobster Boy, himself.

Thanks for including the rest of Lina's story. Most people just bring her up for the shock/horror value and don't seem to care what happened afterward, or just assume the worst, but it's genuinely heartwarming that she got so much help and support to have a good life for her and her son. It takes some of the sting out of such a horrible story to know that the people around her helped make sure the rest of her life wasn't solely defined by it. She's a human being who lived a rich, full life of which this was only a small part, and she deserves to be remembered as such.

@@Eye_Of_Odin978 Where does the original comment mention that serial killers are never caught and escape the law all the damn time? Nor do I see how the original comment is false. Most murderers and serial killers that manage to escape the polices grasp managed to do so because of police incompetence/corruption. (Note: That's not including the ones that simply failed due to the restraints of their time period. I reckon that a lot of famous murderers would now be caught if they had modern technology.) That's a well documented fact in most cases... on this channel alone. I mean, how often do you hear the sentence "At first, the police didn't take it seriously." or "No one knows why area X wasn't searched thoroughly"? My late wife was an emergency room nurse working at one of the busiest hospitals in the United States. It’s also one of the few Level 1 Trauma centers. Don’t continue reading if you don’t want to hear a traumatic story with no happy ending. She was working as the triage nurse when a pregnancy in labor comes up to the emergency room doors so she runs out and finds the baby mostly out with the mother sitting on it. My wife was trying to get the mother to move so she can get to the baby but she was at least twice the size of my wife and the other people in the car were making everything worse by screaming and freaking out. My wife eventually gets access the baby and sprints inside to the waiting room to try and save it’s life. She was performing CPR as she was running at top speed and other staff were in perfect sync helping along the way but the baby was gone before they even arrived at the hospital and there was nothing they could do. She said it was also disfigured from the mother sitting on it. She experienced some terrible things as well as some wonderful things. Countless people are still here because of her. There were multiple nights where she’d come home from work and come up and hug me and start crying and I would do everything I could to support her and make her feel as good as possible considering the situation but that baby broke her. That night we both cried. This life can be unspeakably cruel and those who are the kindest, best people are taken away too soon and the worst and least deserving get to live long fulfilling lives. Make sure you let those who are most important to you know what they mean to you because you might wake up tomorrow with them gone.

I personally refused to accept that she was gone and despite a long ambulance ride and only manual cpr as an option, I kept fighting and fighting only to hear her pronounced doa when we got to the hospital.

Most sociopaths can appear normal on the outside. They're aware of their condition and they're aware that society would be suspicious of them should they openly speak of it with random individuals. I actually think that Scary Interesting got this one wrong, because I believe Robinson was a SOCIOPATH, not a PSYCHOPATH. Psychopaths cannot control or really be fully cognizant of their condition like sociopaths. They're more unhinged usually, DRIVEN by a COMPULSION to do whatever horrible acts would have them labeled as a psychopath to begin with. Sociopaths, while they feel urges or have thoughts of doing horrific things, have no ultimate *compulsion* to do so, meaning they can technically control themselves, they just don't because they're amoral and have no real connection to moral values like other people. So it's actually more likely that Robinson is a sociopath who just merely wanted to hurt people, so he did. It would make sense too, because he did it to take their money. He acted opportunistically, not on driven instinct or compulsion. A psychopath wouldn't be driven by gaining material wealth like that, they'd probably be more into the violence itself as a goal, as their compulsions are usually violent in nature. Not saying psychopathy or sociopathy is good or anything, just trying to explain that the two aren't interchangeable like some people think and they actually have key distinctions.

Lina's story - It's near impossible to wrap my brain around it. I'm the oldest of three siblings (all girls) and my middle sister is 5 years younger than me. Remembering my parents brings her home from the hospital, I recall how astounded and confused I was by this tiny person. Obviously I knew my mom had been pregnant. I saw her belly get bigger and bigger, and now that she was back from the hospital, the belly was gone. And in my 5 year old brain, I didn't even connect those two things - my moms vanished belly when 2 days prior she looked like she swallowed a basketball and the little baby she was holding. Yes, my parents HAD explained to me that the baby was inside of my mom and she had to grow until she was big enough to be born. But still... I just didn't understand. How the hell did the baby get out??? Anyway... to imagine a child at that exact same age as I was, just dumbfounded by the whole idea of where the heck babies came from... It's just the most horrifying situation I can think of... The subhuman monster that did this to a 5 year old child (many stores even include 5 year old children's clothing in the TODDLER section) has a special place in the depths of hell that are reserved for those monsters that don't even deserve to be labeled as human beings.

Lina's story is exactly why it's so important to start giving your children words to describe actions done to them early on, and specific words. "Privates" are age appropriate. When you tell them words that are, let's be honest, intensely stupid (i.e. "cookie"), you muddy the waters for them and, heaven forbid, investigators if something happens to them. Poor Lina's parents probably never thought to give her such words. DNA could probably tell who the father is still, since it could tell if it was a close relative or someone not related to Lina at all, to start with. But if she wasn't given words and told what's okay and what isn't okay, she wouldn't remember because her brain had no capacity to store the memory. Half the reason most humans don't remember before a certain point in their lives is due to a lack of words to help them understand their experiences, so their brains move on and only start really remembering when they can say, "I did this" "This was done to me". Couple this with the pain she no doubt experienced, it was the perfect combination to give her trauma and age-induced amnesia.
@regenosis
Жыл бұрын
Honestly though...it's probably good that she wasn't taught in a way that would make her remember...Even if a child could speak out about what was just done to them and by who, it's a whole other mess if that voice is even heard or taken seriously or if anything done could result in the culprit being found. AND then you'll have to deal with the child now being able to remember all that.

I was homeless in several states for about three years. The majority of them are content to live that way, scraping by on handouts and whatever they can steal. There are SO many opportunities to get help but most of them require sobriety and a serious effort to better your situation such as finding employment. Because so many of them don't want to do this, certain states are now considering just giving homeless people a permanent residence with no strings attached. When I was in my rock bottom, my stepdad always told me something that stuck with me whenever I would call him and beg for money. He would say "I want to see a hand up before I give a handout." Finally I decided I didn't want to live that way anymore and got myself into a shelter, into drug and mental health treatment and now I've been sober for 7 years this month. Part of me feels sympathy for the small amount of people that find themselves in that situation and are powerless to get out, but mostly I'm frustrated and disgusted that the majority are all so content in that life and choose to congregate to the cities that will give them the most handouts with the least amount of effort on their part. Mental health treatment plays a big part in homelessness but it is free and available here in California. You can't force people to help themselves though.
@Itried20takennames

Agree. But would add that from my small experience with people who are homeless….they are a very diverse group. - Some just had a few unlucky life events and lost the apartment they struggled to pay for working minimum wage in an expensive area. - Some have huge and likely unfixable mental health issues - Some have crippling addictions they have mixed feelings about giving up - A few seem to consider any kind of rule or requirement as “being controlled,” something they are very adverse to and will tolerate homelessness to avoid So many different subgroups, and likely no “one size fits all” fix. Very impressive that you found a way out….many don’t.

Oh man, the doctor one is heartbreaking, though I do now suddenly doubt my humanity, lol. I volunteer for a crisis therapy line for people who need someone to talk to, and obviously the goal is to prevent them from hurting themselves, but since we have no tangible power over the situation, we do sadly lose quite a lot of people, and the majority will simply disengage with ambiguous endings. We don't have the reassurance that we saved a life in like 95% of cases, and in some of them we have literally no chance, as it's quite common for people to do lethal damage to themselves, then call a crisis line simply to have someone to talk to in the end. Obviously I do my best for the people I can, but a combination of these and other factors means that we just sort of have to be okay with the fact that we just don't know how much we're helping, and we're encouraged to... I don't want to say or imply we're encouraged to not try, but we're told to pace ourselves, and not to get emotionally invested, you know? Which, yeah, people who do that, they can't let go of the ambiguous ones, which, as previously mentioned, makes up the majority of our cases. We care, of course we care, but we don't put 110% into every single call because if we did, we'd only be able to do one single call and then we'd have to retire. I don't know, it's hard to explain... I care more about my work and the people I can help than I care about almost anything else, only my kids come before that, but it's more like I care about honing the skillset, whilst letting go of each individual. But I also care terribly about each individual I come across, regardless of their circumstances.... I don't know how to explain it. Anyways yeah, when you asked what's the hardest I've ever worked on something, the calls didn't even cross my mind. Suddenly wondering if that says something bad about me, heh.

Medical staff can't do that, they see, hear and spend time with people and families. No wonder they often burnout and break down, now that I see a small facet of what they face, I can't fathom how emotionally daunting and stressful it must be for them since they can be literally considered responsible for someone's life. It's hard on you, hitting the water at that height, BUT it's not quite as lethal as concrete... AND with a few of the techniques, it's definitely do-able... BUT if you want to just go flailing off "thinking about God" and accept it, I can't stop you... Life is FULL of points and circumstances that offer "no promise of tomorrow" or even the next 5 seconds. We all have our OWN way of facing those moments... It's who you are. I'm a fighter... a DOer.
