I made a thesis about fortifications of Brno before and during the Swedish siege and the legend about changing the clock from 11 to 12 is not true, but just a legend. The fight continued untill evening and Swedish army left Brno unconquered which was huge relief for Vienna. Olomouc was not so lucky and that is the main reason why Brno is Moravian capital today and not Olomouc. By the way the cathedral of st. Peter and Paul was primary target of Swedish bombardment during the siege.

For all those feeling that the ossuary was creepy, Brno also has a crypt with mummified people on display ;-) It's the crypt of the capucchin monks' monastery and the bodies were dried out by natural draft.

It's actually not a clock in the town square that was set to 12, it's the priest in the cathedral who struck noon in the old cathedral tower (was made shorter by one or two floors when the two new towers were built). Until this day, the cathedral clock strikes 12 at 11 a.m.

Hi 👋, Jimmy and Natalie , That was amazing 🤩, Brno , Beautiful butterflies, a shame, Natalie doesn’t like them , I live in the Correze in France, in the countryside, right next to a river, runs through my property, , I have a lot of lot of butterflies, damselflies, and dragonflies , back in 2014, or thereabouts in the summer, while working on the Moulin/Mill , it was still derelict at that point, I went into the property and stuck in a cobweb in the window, was a very large dragonfly , I very very carefully pulled it out of the cobweb and took it and released it outside , this was in the morning , later, in the day, I had just finished cutting the grass , and all of a sudden a dragonfly came and started flying around me and come as hovered straight up my face I would say for probably 30 seconds to nearly a minute , as if to say, thank you for releasing it from the cobweb , I have got pictures of me standing in the garden with dragonflies and damson flies sitting on me, they seem to like my bald head. Ha ha , 😂 ..The Clock 😂😂, a piece of art, the best way to describe it, shame you missed your crystal ball, but never mind, Brno looks to be a beautiful place visit, beautiful and amazing architecture, , I suppose going into the catacombs it’s not everybody’s cup of tea but is an amazing place historically , I have been to the catacombs in Paris, if you have a chance Burgos Spain is a beautiful place to go. And obviously, Barcelona , but I must say, be careful of pickpockets, especially in crowded area. Romania looks nice., I hope you enjoy your stay, I have a friend back in the UK, whose parents live in Romania, and he used to be in a special forces. A great guy, I actually helped him to speak English, I always have a giggle every time I see an animal in the fields we call them goats 🐐, he was calling it a ghost, 😂, See you next week stay safe, don’t have butterfly nightmares, 😂, Phil from the moulin France,

I like the joking name for the Astronomical Clock. English speaking Brňáci call it "Big Black Clock" - see the pun there? 😀 I hoped, that when you are in Czechia, you'd try Kofola (our version of Coke) and in Brno, you should try Starobrno beer instead of Pilsner Urquell. We make fun of Starobrno for being sub-standard beer and I'd love to see, whether is it our prejudice or whether you wouldn't like it.

@petrsebik

1. When you go into eastern europe the trains become slower, due to older tracks, so bus may be a better option. 2. If you are on a budget, busses are mostly cheaper then trains
@Pidalin
Жыл бұрын
@@petrsebik Better class trains don't wait and go 160 km/h in Czech Republic and pretty much all tracks are already reconstructed, people complain about our trains, but they don't know what is really bad, they should try trains in Croatia, it goes like 30 km/h. Big surprise for me was Poland, trains are really reliable and fast there and tracks are mostly new now, it looks like they renovated everything in last 15 years.
@Pidalin
Жыл бұрын
Some people are just bus people, I also don't understand why someone is going from Prague to Vienna by bus when it's 4 hours in train and you can sit in 1st class restaurant car and having meal. Here in Czechia, we are used to trains, but in some other countries, they just use buses and they don't even consider that train is also option. Also, I don't feel that safe in bus, especially when bus driver is crazy, which happens more often than it should be. Also, trains are mostly not canceled like some low cost flixbus buses where you don't have space for your legs and driver is always rude. In train, you just put your baggage above you and you don't have to deal with rude driver. But when you go to some other countries more south or more east, trains are mostly useless, especially in Croatia, it goes like 30 km/h there, it's completely useless. We complain about our trains, but better class trains have priority and it mostly really goes that max allowed speed which is 160 km/h or even 200 in few modernised places. And high speed trains are planned, it looks like they will finally start with constructiojn soon, I can't believe that I will really live long enough to see that.
