In Tokyo, I hear the line as "Life is a wave that sometimes you cannot see" speaking on how sometimes life washes over us, brings us down without warning and we don't expect it even though we know we're in the ocean of a turbulent life. It's so amazing how ambiguous the meaning becomes with no official lyrics.

But this meaning is not an official one.

This was a masterful analysis of Mono, thank you so much for it! It’s hard enough to contemplate and express such difficult, sometimes amorphous feelings, but to do it with poetry, and then to put it to music that is so complementary - only a rare, sensitive and intelligent person such as Namjoon could have done it. A deep dive into anything RM offers us will always be deeply rewarding, comforting and enriching.

In forever rain, you can find similar lyrics in BTS' song Rain, which I believe RM wrote as well. lyrics like "the rain knocking on the window' and 'seeing your reflection in a puddle'

Thank you so much for doing this video! About the mixtape, I feel Namjoon wanted to talk about things, and tell how he feels, as NAMJOON and NOT as RM (he mentioned this before, "Sometimes I feel I could listen to your stories as NAMJOON and NOT as RM"). It's very personal and introspective. Even in one of the interviews he mentioned that when he was young, he tried to rap in a particular way (swag and cool or badass way of a rapper) but now he doesn't rap in a particular way but just tells his feelings in an abstract manner. And here we have MONO to prove that. Edit: Sorry, grammatical mistakes
@wandering_thoughts

Yes! I agree, the differentiation between RM and Namjoon is really prevalent in mono. He has evolved so much since his first mixtape or the early days of BTS. I have the feeling many people don't acknowledge that but his music is the best proof, like you said. Thank you for watching the video and taking your time to comment!

also i feel like the ticking noise in forever rain is a call back at the ticking instrument in the song "do you" where he raps extrimely fast in the atempt to prove his skills, in this song he goes against that and makes the ticking noise slow and echoy, he no longer tries to get so hardly at others, he tries to hear himself.
@wandering_thoughts

@@alessiacarolli95 thank you so much! 🥰🥰 and yes, that makes so much sense! The reference to Do You works so well together with the "because my rap and my life are usually too fast" line 😍 now that you mention it, Forever Rain seems like an antithesis to Do You, a representation of Namjoon's artistic (and perhaps personal) growth

Thanks you sooooo much for this! Like you I totally agree with the open to interpretation part which is also RM’s intention. However I’m quite analytical and can’t help but went through similar analysis like you did on my mind. I’ll go though yours slowly reply where I gave something different. First in Tokyo the last part of the whistle adds to feeling and paints the picture of a lover walking in an empty Tokyo street, and connects to the moon child words too, it somehow gives me the vibe that this Whistler is alone but quite comfortable with himself and basking in the cold quiet night with moon light shining on him.

15:32 I, personally always understand: "And ash is a thing that someday we all *shoudn't* be". I don't exactly know how to interpret this but maybe this goes into the same direction as the line before, trying to avoid death or not wanting it to be real. Maybe we know about it but nevertheless try to keep it away from us by saying: "This shoudn't be happening."

I like the intended sequence of the tracks and they are coherent, thanks for explaining and it makes more sense to me know what RM meant in his vlive about listening not to a song in isolation like having fast food but rather appreciate the intention of a playlist. Do you think ‘everything goes’ could also go well ti put as the last song like a outer to finish the list instead of leaving the theme song forever rain as the last? It leaves me feeling really depressed and sad at the end of the playlist, so just a thought that everything goes being last would act like a concluding song that says all will come to pass regardless.
@wandering_thoughts
Жыл бұрын
I have thought about that, too, and I think it says so much about how life works that 'forever rain' is the last song of the album. Because, even if we mature and realize that good and bad times come and go (as 'everythingoes' talks about), we can still get hit by a wave of depression in the way 'forever rain' is one. Sometimes, life just works like that. It's once again this ambiguity of "good" and "bad" and all the other supposed paradoxes the playlist is talking about. That's just my take on it, though.

RM does not mean “Real Me”!! It is a possible meaning but not an official one and I wish people would stop spreading it!! It was an off hand comment. He said it like “it could have many different meanings” and used “Real Me” like an example and people ran with it. It’s not an official meaning. Just like the lyrics of mono he left it intentionally vague.

True, he said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight that it can have many meanings and that right now, it could mean "Real Me" to him. I guess I could have phrased that differently :)
