Amen! Just today I was talking with a friend about how I never want to see another "Top 10 restaurants in NYC" or "The best XYZ in LA" video again. It's no wonder most tourists flock to those two cities. Looking at the internet, you'd think they were the only places that existed in the whole country. I appreciate it immensely that Marie travels all over the country, not just to the same old tourist hotspots.

Union Station opened well over 100 years ago. In its prime it was a major rail hub for many decades. Heavily used for commercial traffic & passenger service. Starting in the 1950’s it began a steady decline. Eventually, the Station closed. People began a revitalization program that refreshed the facility. So much history there including a 1933 gangster shoot out.

Kansas City used to be a really vibrant city. Deindustrialization in the 1980s hit Kansas City really hard. That caused the suburbs to become large and wealthy, especially during the 90s and 00s. But the 10s saw the city proper begin to turn around. It still has some bad areas, but all things considered, Kansas City is a good place to live, and its a place where the best is yet to come.

Kansas City, MO, was originally called Kansas, because it was founded overlooking the confluence of the Kansas and Missouri rivers, some time before the organization of the Kansas Territory. After Kansas became a state, the city changed its name to Kansas City to differentiate itself from the state across the way.
@whatadamnusername

I'm sure you read about it in the exhibit, but in case you didn't, the Disney100 exhibit that you went to was the final date on the tour because it's nearest to Walt Disney's hometown of Marceline, Missouri, off of whose main street Walt Disney based Main Street USA at Disneyland, and because Kansas City is where Walt first started his career in animation.

Hey Marie 😄 Weekend ✈️✨ WOW!!! Amazing Array of Animals , Cool there's mighty polar Bear's to greet you. It's wild how they've recreated habitats from around the world. The 🐵 were playful , exotic 🐦 , the 🐍 taken a drink , it must have been hot. The Kangaroos do look like there free to roam but I wouldn't get to close ( they sometimes put dogs in headlocks ) that one doing okay just chilling , it's legal to have them us pets in Texas but I wouldn't advise it. Do you remember that funny scene from Crocodile Dundee french fry. It's terrific that you got to feed some 🐪 ( they even eat meat & fish on rare occasions) they don't deserve there bad reputation & Billy 🐐 there so cute & funny. The Aquarium 🐠 was wonderful , I'm impressed for it's size how much it looks just like the ocean. Pretty fish , the Stingray so graceful & the Jellyfish are Captivating. I don't mind smaller fish & Seahorses etc being kept so much but larger animals like Sharks 🦈 & Turtles should be returned to the open sea whenever it's possible. It must have been a relief getting sprayed 🚿 , as good as it feels to have blue skies & sunshine , it sucks during the summer having to deal with the sticky humidity. The African savannah area looked the most outstanding. 🐘 Elephant's are magnificent , among my favorites , who would have thought there could be left trunked / handed like us , you learn something new everyday. The wild dogs do have pack power & are successful hunters but I doubt if they get the chance there , it would scare away the tourists. I know you've already mentioned Cheetah 🐆 are your favorite too. I like how there's a boardwalk running alongside them , the females tend to be solitary but the males ( 3 bros) prefer to be together. They also have a impressive habitat for the Leopards & there's a rare stripped Hyena. Getting up close to the 🦁 was Super duper , I was kinda confused if they were male or not , the paws are a giveaway , how could they do that to them , hopefully there mane will grow back. Anyway the 🐧 were adorable & don't seem to have much of people even in the wild. I saw one recently that got left behind on a beach but found the courage & instinct to go against the tide , hope he made it back. I wish you had time to discover more & went across the rope bridge but seeing all the animals would probably take days. They do have a silverback 🦍 Gorilla & if you do meet one be careful not to stare or show your teeth it's a sign of aggression. There's also a rare Caracal 🐈 Cat , a cute bat eared Fox & a Bongo , that's rarely seen living in the dense jungle. The Meals you had looked freshly yummy 😋 , the live music was a 🎤 blast , even granny was getting on in it , wonder if they know any Rush . Cheetos could get addictive with all those variety's , they kinda remind me of wotsits from the UK but are flamin hot to. Your have to remember to pack your favorite snacks if there not available back home. Union station was Grand & Elegant , the Railroad pics were marvelous , the mail engine a interesting window into the past , I can relate to because my home town always been famous for making them. Hope you get to see 🚂 more of them in action. Walt's 🐭 looking larger than life , the exhibition was magical , brings back a lot of fond memories. A real treat seeing his original drawings , models( like the nautilus) & props , the wooden boy from Pinocchio was heartwarming , one of my favorites "if you wish upon a star" & snow white & the 7 dwarfs ( nice picture with dopey) will always be special because it was the very first for me , ahead of it's time using the real movements of actors traced on to film , I was pleased there was something on Herbie , the beloved beetle , I found out one of the original cars is owned by a guy in Texas. The interactive features were cool. We have much to thank Walt Disney for bringing us happiness & believing your dreams can come true. The Riverfront with it's mural was cool , a pleasant & relaxing stroll but where was everyone? It's superb & informative that they've payed homage to the first french explorers & the 4 houses , a legacy worth treasuring. The 🐶 cafe had a nice vibe & seemed top notch for a bite or two. I'm glad you experienced more of how it really feels to live in a gritty city & not just as a tourist. Be sure to check out the Zoo's Facebook page with willow the giraffe calf & the rescued sea otters , they had a rhino fundraiser recently & the Zoo review online that goes into greater detail about all the animals. Branson Aquarium also worth visiting. Your vibrant innocence & curiosity for discovering something new always makes me smile , merci beaucoup Marie , Blessed be , Have a Fantastic week. 👨 💕 🍁✌️ Prays to the families who have lost Loved ones due to Hurricane Helena , Operation Airdrop ( online) is underway , give something if you can. God bless 💞 🙏

Kansas City was a city before Kansas was a state. The name comes from a local Native American tribe and river. The town of Kansas, MO. is 8 years older than the state of Kansas. Years later it was renamed to Kansas City. Probably done so to avoid confusion, but even after hundreds of years, the confusion still exists. Having a Kansas City, KS doesn't help with the confusion. Stay away from there though!! Lol.

From what I understand, the "Missouri river" got it's name before there were the states of Kansas and Missouri, and when they eventually got around to drawing the borders, they thought the river would be a good way to mark it. The majority of Kansas City is on the Missouri (East)side, which makes sense, I'm sure many settlers got to the river and said "nah, we're good"
@brendafrazier811

Actually the major trails that the settlers used may have started around the Missouri River but then went south into Kansas. When they crossed into Kansas territory they were not close to the river since it only forms part of the northern border between the states.

You really don’t know. Disney’s props are stored right here in Orlando. Once every piece does tour it ends up right in the Orange County regional history museum. Personal effects of Walter Elias Disney actually are in the Disney museum in Anaheim. We deal with the stuff from the parks and movie props. Actually Orlando has most of the original wardrobes of every star from every movie that Disney has made. Some ride parts like gondolas and such end up on sale at antique stores or auctioned. I know the original sea serpent from 20,000 leagues under the sea went up on auction many times but it never was sold. It’s currently still in a warehouse somewhere in Orlando.

If you see coal most likely it came from West Virginia. It’s the only place in America where coal is still being extracted. Most likely from near the town of Welch. It’s the only place I know with active coal mines. That coal isn’t for our use. It’s going to Asia likely China into the city of Harbin in the extreme north of the country. It’s going to the port of Los Angeles to a ship onto the port of Hong Kong then onto the port of either Shanghai or Guangzhou then it’s going to be transferred to a train into the city of Harbin. Coal unfortunately doesn’t really have any decent profits as most companies in the business just break even. It’s just wages, equipment costs, manpower costs and everything else. The company just breaks even when everything is said and done. Also coal is shunned as a fuel source as we’ve been working on alternative energy sources for years while coal is seen as a relic of the past.

You do realize that there are coal fired power plant still in use here in the US. A lot of US Coal also comes from the Powder River Basin up in Montana. Thus a portion of the coal gets shipped via barge down the Missouri River. Yes, coal is on the outs for electric generation, but Natural gas has stormed the electric power generation.
