I lived in Charleston in the 80s and my aunt worked in payroll at the Citadel. We would pick her up from work and I would watch this every Friday afternoon waiting for her to come out . As a teenage girl it was nice they were all so handsome in their dress uniform.

Friday afternoons were just about the same. After parade was a "death run" in which, if you fell out, you stood at attention face down in the grass of the parade ground. After, we would "douche" the barracks--the galleries and quad--for SMI. Then a shower and then a night of as much beer as your stomach could take. Back in the barracks by 0000, or 0100 for upperclassmen. Then the painful and hungover SMI next morning. Knob year--1983. The best of times and worst of times...

We did the same thing in my knob year back in '05. We were told to never fall out of a run lest we suffer the abuse of the upper-classes. Death runs would circle the parade deck as many times as the BN commander deemed necessary. If my company commander didn't feel as though it wasn't tough enough, he'd take us for another lap or two. Douching the quad was a race between companies. Once we were showered and in our summer leave uniforms, the juniors would tell us to not return to the barracks sober. When we returned completely hammered due to the efforts of CofC girls, the upperclassmen who made it back before us or who were on tours, would make our lives a living hell. The Citadel is like toilet paper; you miss it when its gone.

Incredibly based and also based, reminds me of when me n my boys in romeo company would huff blue magic before every pt every parade and fire de lacquer our hair for that smoothe and tight knobby cut.

I'm in a JROTC unit from Georgia and I went to the Citadel for a week this summer for their annual Cadet Leadership Course. I had a great time there, and it was very rewarding as well as challenging and informative, and I made a lot of new friends from all over the south. I'm now considering the Citadel for an option in my future.

What year was this? Pretty motley, compared to my friends in the class of '76. Going coed was the death of El Cid.
