Taking advantage of a great day, I took a day trip to the Conrail Shared Assets Lehigh Line in New Jersey. I kept the spots in close proximity - started at South Plainfield in the morning and spent the remainder of the day at the Prospect Ave. crossing in Piscataway.
Train action that day wasn't too busy but there were quite a few trains to point out. CSX trains featured a number of the, with a 70MAC leader. Also Q702 (usually has only the green trash containers) had mixed freight combined with it. Towards the end of the day, mixed freight Q301 showed up with the Spirit of Dante unit at second of two, and mixed freight Q417 had a CITX SD40-2. On NS's side, two of the heritage units came by, including the Jersey Central unit leading two SD60 standard cabs (great consist too) on intermodal NS 21M and the DL&W (Delaware, Lackawanna & Western) unit led autorack NS 18N by at the end. NS 211 showed up with a UP on the point, and mixed freight NS 33K went through with an ex-UP SD90MAC at second of two. Two NS trains I was not able to see was intermodal NS 20R and ethanol NS 64K, both diverged onto the Port Reading Secondary at CP-Bound Brook, further west.
All in all I was satisfied with this day trip. Quite a few people showed up at the Prospect Ave. crossing and it was a pleasure meeting a couple of new ones.
*Note: I'm really really NOT GOOD w/ train symbols. I try to get as many as I can through my scanner or asking other railfans around me (if any).*
