QoTV: I always start with a character concept, whether that starts with a theme or a combat style is up to what happens at the time. I’m always a planner and want to have an idea ahead of time and be ready to go when the session starts. The caveat is in the games I’ve been a part of we either create characters before the first session, or as a group during Session 0. Great video! I can’t wait to see Chillstorm in action!

QotV: Very frequently the first thing that comes to me is a name, and from there it's easy to come up with a power set. Solidifying the backstory informs my choice of skills and often some of the character limits. I like to do stuff that's unusual when I can think of it. Frex, I once created a character who had a chemical dependency -- not drug addiction, but Type I diabetes. Lastly, I absolutely _love_ playing characters who have secrets (not necessarily dark ones), and I consider it a challenge to come up with stuff that will create drama without making it impossible for the PCs to work together.

I have one of two methods for character creation. Both start with asking the GM what kind of game we are playing. After that, if a concept springs to mind, I tend to go with the concept and try to fit it into the system we are using. If nothing springs to mind, then I look up an old book called Heroes Now and do a lot of die rolling (seriously that book is full of charts) until I get a combo of things that are interesting and can work with what the GM has planned. Then both paths merge into one again as whatever I've got gets run by the GM. If approved great, if not, rinse and repeat.

QotV: a bit of both. If I have an idea before putting pencil to paper, I talk to the GM about it & proceed with their blessings and feedback. If not, I see where the process lands me. Some TTRPG's lend themselves better to one style or the other. Alternity is one you start with at least the idea, but others like Palladium's system (notably "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles & Other Strangeness") are plainly the "roll-what-you-get" camp.

Different approach depends on the type of game. Personally i prefer to have a general idea of what I want and work towards thats but it depends on the stat rolls.

You have two yellow abilities: a reaction and innate. These are unusable together. One negates damage entirely, the other only works if you take damage. They are both keyed on the same element which is why they can't work together. One should be based cold so you can use both yellows. As an aside, you could have taken a Physical Quality (ranged combat most likely) and then taken Endurance Fighting as one of your Reds. This allows you to hinder each target you hit with action based attacks which could simulating freezing rain/sleet/cold. Then you can take Combustion (under Technology) as your next red. Combustion is a more powerful version of Take Down, with the added bonus and having the hinder attached due to your first red choice. Finally, as your third red choice, I would suggest Reliable Aptitude (under Information) This would most likely be based on Technology or Ranged. This let's you reroll your minimum die with all Technology or Ranged rolls (which will probably be most of your attacks). Judging from your abilities, this last Red will get a lot of use from this character due to the three Min Die using abilities. At any rate, happy gaming.

About how long does character creation take? I'm a rules-lite kinda GM, so I'm not sure if Sentinel Comics is for me or not. Thanks though for the video. I always enjoy hanging out with you.

Character creation takes about 45 minutes to an hour if you're a new player. You can probably cut that in half if you know what you're doing. That's my estimate having gone through the whole process now. 👍🏿
