Look at the ingredients people! There are a lot better oils for the same price. This doctor needs to do more research on supplements. Ingredients include, caramel color, "natural ingredients", tilapia (which is farm raised) and lots of other garbage.

There are SO many brands out there for supplements, it’s really hard to identify the best fish ooil especially. It’s gotta be free from mercury, no carageenan, right? And of course high levels of DHA in particular is ideal. Third-party tested is a good thing too. What do you recommend?

I encourage you to watch videos in their entirety. Studies have shown that the majority of fish oils are oxidized by the time they are sold. As mentioned in the previous two videos, there are, of course, some companies that have quality controlled and third-party testing, ensuring that the fish oil is not rancid or oxidized. In that case, it is very useful as it does supply a good amount of omega-3 fatty acids. Life extension is one of those companies, but of course there are this as well.

The video you mentioned talks about not buying fish oil that has been sitting on shelves and is from companies that are using low quality ingredients. The studies have shown that over 80% of these supplements are highly oxidized and more harmful than useful. There are some companies that have excellent quality control And third-party testing to ensure that the fish oil is not oxidized if consumed within the expiration date. In that case it is of course, very useful due to its high omega-3 fatty acid content.

Heavy metals? Well, I definitely want the source for my fish oil to be LOW in heavy metals! #SarcasmSign Seriously, is this heavy metal in fish only the result of man-made pollution or are heavy metals naturally occurring in our oceans?
@JonasKuehneMD
9 ай бұрын
It’s likely both. But interestingly, when you think of dark chocolate, even organic dark chocolate, having a high amount of lead and cadmium, this is inherent to the properties of the plant and its ability to absorb these from the ground. There certainly are heavy metals present in the ocean without us contributing. Small fish is generally fairly low on these as they have a shorter lifespan and less time to accumulate heavy metals.

@JonasKuehneMD

The issue with most fish oils you get from the shelf of a store is that they have been sitting there for quite some time, and if the manufacturer does not have quality control in place, many of these are in fact, oxidized. In that case it’s better to not take them rather than taking a product that is oxidized. Life extension is one company that has very strict quality control and independent testing of their fish oil.

I go to a local high end (local!) store, where nothing sits on shelves long. People, don’t get this stuff from Amazon, Rite Aid, Kmart etc. Buy direct from the company ideally.
