I have only recently found your channel and am completely floored with the content. The work that goes into creating such visual beauty hasn't gone unnoticed. I love the history lessons, the scrumptious recipes that are works of art, the gorgeous costumes and of course the breathtaking outdoor scenes of daily life on a farm. Simply magical.

Refrigerator rolls are really good, give almost beer like fermentation flavor. That basting mix looks beautiful on a roasted bird. Am into spatchcock smoked turkey, but that trussing makes a presentation people want at a table dinner.

This seems amazing. Thanks for sharing such great historical recipes all the time. I taught my sons about the Mother of Thanksgiving when I homeschooled them for several years and read them the Thanksgiving proclamation of Lincoln. I also taught them about the proclamation George Washington gave at one point about Thanksgiving in the late 1700s about setting aside a day to be thankful. Perhaps you can look into that too. I had fun watching you make dinner rolls, as I will be making ones in a similar fashion and can't wait. I make a type of honey syrup to dip them into. This old photograph of the two children, is this from your family? It is lovely. Your spread is the most delightful I think I have ever seen. Now you have to do it all over again next week! Fun!

Thank you so much! I did happen read about George Washington’s proclamation. I just did not include it in this video. I actually dove in fairly deep but didn’t have time to fit all of my research in. Hoping for a bit of rest this week for next Friday’s video! It is a photograph of my great-grandmother and her sister ☺️

As a Native American person it is hard for this to not feel insensitive and tone deaf for the context of the situation. To give thanks was such an irony when so much slaughter and betrayal happened. It’s a bit of a twisted reality in a way. Either way, cheers. To this wonderful food.

@@shararochelle8372 I couldn’t agree more. I am sorry if my video came across as insensitive. That was not my intention. I am never sure how far into the history I should venture when it comes these videos as my main focus is the food and where the food traditions came from (and if those food traditions involved Native American culture, I would certainly say so). Mainly because I am simply an armchair historian, and I don’t want to misinform anyone. Being a white person, I never know if it’s correct for me to talk about BIPOC culture, or if I should let a BIPOC person inform others. I know so many people view this holiday as controversial, myself included. In my research on Sarah Josepha Hale, her true intention of pushing the holiday was to make it a religious Christian celebration and there is hardly ever mention of the indigenous peoples that were involved in the original meal. Again, it’s like do you bring that to light or just focus on the food. Again, I’m sorry! Being insensitive is never my intention. I very much support you and your concerns.

Thank you for this reply @@underatinroof. That means a lot to hear. An acknowledgement by all is a huge milestone that I hope our society can reach. We have a lot to learn in what is right and wrong for how to handle the situation. Your view is mature and respectful and I thank you for it.
