Great honest video, I used mine once to outline a carving project instead of tracing it all with a pencil.

thank you for checking this out. yes, keys are needed if you can print from your phone. kids would mess with it like crazy if you can just use your phone. Lasers seem good for graphics, but easier and safer to do cuts and holes.

I got the Ortur laser engraver (not as nice as yours) but I have had a lot of fun with it. I used it to cut out veneer for marquetry for a small box top, and have been burning images onto wood (Cherry looks the best so far) that I have generated using Midjourney. Thanks for the video.

A characteristically thoughtful and comprehensive review - thank you Chad. But may I make a respectful suggestion? My feeling is that the metal surface protector is not a good idea because of the possibility of laser reflection. Years ago I was part of a plasma-laser interaction research group and the danger of laser reflection was drummed into us at every moment. If there is even athe remotest chance that laser light might be reflected into someone's eye it will certainly blind them - if it can set fire to plywood it can definitely burn a permanent hole in someone's retina. I have absolutely no doubt that you are a very competent and responsible power tool user Chad but if there is even the very tiniest chance that laser light might be accidentally reflected from that metal sheet then there's a possibility of someone being permanently hurt. And you've only got one pair of safety glasses! (And I know there's a little orange filter shroud at the laser head but there's always the possibility of stray light.) It's twenty-five years since the laser safety officer, a wonderful character called Alastair Montgomery, impressed these warnings on me but I remember them vividly. I know it sounds like over reaction but for pity's sake don't take chances with laser light - you only get to make two mistakes. Cheers Chad and thanks again.

That is GREAT advice! I never even considered that. Yes, I will do that and in a future video, I will correct my error in that regard. Thank you

Hi Chadd thanks for diving into this tech , I've been on the fence about adding one to my shop . Like you I'm not a huge tech guy but this helped me sort out whether or not to get one. I hope you share some of the projects you do with it . Thanks and take care Jerry

Hey Jerry. Yes I probably will do a few videos as I learn more. But as I'm seeing there is a lot for me to learn and a lot of patience involved. 😅

It's so ironic that you posted a video about this machine. Earlier this morning I watched someone use a machine by that maker to recreate a chair seat design. The laser engraver and the 3D printer are 2 pieces of equipment I would like to have in my shop. Thanks for the build and review. Also, what would be the possibility of buying one of your logos as a fridge magnet? That would be cool. You could even give them to clients as a thank you gift.

@@ChadStanton Machines like that can open a whole new world.
I have a mini laser, about the size of a tennis ball. It sits on a small tripod. You use your phone to Blue tooth a photo (Jpeg). to the laser. I now have a small logo for my work 😊, as you can see. It does what I want it to. I don't need it for commercial style stuff. I hope yours works out for your level of work.

First a serious comment. You might decide to burn your logo directly into the project rather than an add on. Now for the nutso comment. Through the middle of the video you have in the background my favorite saw. While I was shopping for an RAS on FB marketplace, I ran across one advertised as a Radio Alarm Tennis Saw. HONEST I did.

If it takes you 35 minutes, it will take me days especially on the tech part in time I could see you doing great things with this if safety Dan was there, he might have shut you down after some of the fires you had. lol nice work and video.

So, you bought this laser equipment, and was too cheap to buy Lightburn software for $60? That was a mistake. The LB software is THE software for lasers today, particularly diode lasers. AND it is also awesome design software so you don't need to use Inkscape or some other design software. So, you have the operating software AND the design software all in one. And I think it is extremely easy to use. Last LB has GREAT tutorials on their KZitem and channel AND their manual is very good which can be accessed easily within the software. Another great resource for laser information and education is the Luisiana Hobby Guy on KZitem AND he also has a forum that is free to join.

Hahahaha I wasn't necessarily being cheap. I thought I mentioned I wasn't sure if I was going to like it the machine and if I didn't I didn't want to waste the money. But after using the machine I do see I will use it. And hearing more people recommend Lightburn I will be subscribing to it. But thank you for the recommendation.

That’s a very interesting comment. I understand your point. I prefer hand cut dovetails versus routered ones. Great insight.
