@26:20 It will BARK but you need to hit that minus sign to the right of the feedback knob. I recreated your setup and it barks. I checked the 2.11.6 manuals and there isnt a true description of all buttons and knobs, but I think when the PLUS (+) sign is visible and light turns blue its "Bark" feedback and when the MINUS( - ) is visible its normal feedback...and it doesnt clip the output.

@@TeftyMeems - yes, please do a follow-up video on the Mini-D. Some other things to note: the analog knob increases the randomness on various internal parameters such as electronics noise, oscillator drift, and oscillator phase lock. And compared to the Behringer Model-D, the Air Mini-D has extra waveforms for the oscillators (fat triangle, 2-directions saw), velocity control in the modulation, extra LFO with some stepped waveforms for controlling pitch, VCA as a modulation target for ring-mod effects, and dedicated release for the ADSR envelopes. Osc feedback taps the output and re-injects it before the filter - similar to the old minimoog trick of using the headphones jack output and patching it into the filter. It emphasizes the resonance, and if you have low resonance to start with, beefs up the signal.

So I installed/Activated the mini d plugin on my MPC One yesterday.... Immediately after fiddling around with it for about two hours.... WORTH EVERY PENNY!!! I have owned and used moog Subsequent 37 in the past, by comparison this plugin comes to a superb modeling synth quality, and HAUNTINGLY close to the real thing!! plus 4 voice AND effects! and atleast to my ears (especially after tweaking some knobs) comes fantastically close to the actual synth!!... Given the alternative, this thing at $79.95 or even $99.95 is a STEAL!..recommend to anyone out there debating getting it, go right ahead! Nice review. I love all the plugins they have done. Only problem is, if you have multiple songs in memory, they're pretty much useless unless you mix them down to an audio track. With only 8 plugin instances, you're stuck with the same sounds and effects each uses for every song. They really need some way of being able to select different sounds per sequence. So although you would still only have those 8 plugins, you would be able to call up different sounds on each of those in different sequences or tracks. Like using program change messages to select different sounds on hardware synths.

I've been keeping it 1 or 2 songs per project and I have a secondary groovebox for transitions. It isn't necessarily practical for everyone but works for me, and then the production can be wildly varied. But it is also nice to just stick to the same or similar sounds for a whole bunch of songs. Lots of really great producers have done that. It makes you focus on song writing more, and makes you really just pick some solid synth patches.

Over 35 years old :-) Looks something ugly but works like a charm. A little bit like me). With a little (really little) EQing the sound is very very analog. Using it on a MPC one and it pushes the machine lightyears on and is a super addition to the "digital" plug ins and sampler. I bought the MPC 3 times and sold it 2 times. But this time with the mini D it´s sound is very complete. Editing it with the Qlinks is very fast, nearly as good as the boog and moog. It has really some hardware knobtweaking feeling. Love it. First, I love your channel and music. Sorry if this question is a bit off-topic, but if you're using the Mini-D (or any other sounds) are you typically using the internal MPC One standalone effects and do you find them suitable generally? I've heard the MPC software has some latency when trying to use effect VST's but perhaps that's an old issue that's been resolved in a firmware update? I'd love to use something like Valhalla with the Mini-D, or something from Sound Toys but can't figure out how as I'm just learning :) Thanks so much!!

They've been creating new plugins (and revenue streams), but still critical bugs that have been there for years haven't been fixed. Bonkers. In particularly for me, I'm referring to the MIDI input bug where cross channel note messages will cut off notes with same MIDI note numbers. Basically makes it impossible to play multiple channels/instruments on MPC externally (think splits, KSP ETC) that are within same octave range. Bass/drums for instance can be infuriating for example. Bug reports go back years, and my personal bug reports to Akai are laughably ignored and ghosted. But hey, we now have an extra synth plugin that no one needed (I mean come on, onboard synths subtractive sounds really are great on the MPC already)

I think it's a good point that investing in these plug-ins is a way to ensure future investments into the MPC platform. For me personally though, it feels really weird to buy plug-ins for an ecosystem that is inherently rather limited. Although you can certainly approach professional-quality music productions with the MPC ecosystem, you will make a lot of sacrifices that I'm not sure I'm willing to make. At that point, I'd rather try to approach the DAW world and build my ecosystem around that instead and treat the MPC purely as a sampler/groovebox kind of device, which rules out buying any additional plug-ins for it.

I'm not against akai charging for plugins on MPC, but it's currently a bad value compared to basically any commercial VST that can be used anywhere for all time. Any MPC plugin you buy ought to come with a VST license as well. I really hope Akai either supports VST in MPC or provides an SDK to port VST's to the MPC platform. One problem with Akai getting into premium plugins is they can monopolize it which creates bad incentives for user experience.

I kinda want this and the new Flavor Pro, but I have a hard time spending another $150 to get them. That’s steep and it just takes the total cost of my Live II into a territory I wasn’t expecting. Moog emulation is nothing new, the cool part is that now you can have it in a box that only needs 7 watts to run. Will be looking out for the sale. I got the organ, piano and electric Keys bundle for 99$. Well worth it. As standalone users, we need access to Q links for mapping and the ability to map midi controls for personal keygroups synths. This is for me the shady aspects to the standalone experience.

As a fellow musician who evaluates how things sound in a mix, the Mini D sounds nothing like the Model D (20:10). I don't think it's even in the ballpark. However, if it wasn't marketed as a Moog emulation it could stand on it's own as a workmanlike bread and butter synth plugin. To be fair, none of the virtual synths compare to the Model D, which is something of a tstament ot Behringer's design.

Maybe I'm mooged out from having more than one PC vst version. I wasn't that impressed when I trialled this on my Force. Synapse Audio's legend hits hardest for me, it's just seems to be able to find that sound to fit when I need it.

Does it sound the same on MPC standalone? Or there are differences in audio quality?

The standalone Mini-D (on MPC and Force) sounds identical to the desktop VST.

I know it’s supposed to be a Model D, but did they add PWM ? Just for the sake of Nick liking it ? (and me liking it as well)

You have the Poly D and the MPC Key 61 but are wondering how they stack up? You should test it, no? Make a video?

Oh a new synth? Can we save presets per pattern yet? This machine needs that.

I have the MPC Instrument and the real D - the real is sooooooo much better - thats it. The only benefit on the MPC version is, u can save presets easy - and dont need any cardboard or something, like on the D

Too expensive for something that there are a million free VSTs for. Add to it that 2.11.16 didn't fix any of the GLARING bugs they keep getting told about. Everyone gotta make money, but fix your shit AKAI.

The Model D obviously has a better sound. But what about how much more versatile the MPC is?

Had we had this before we got the Boog, I wouldn't have gotten it (the Boog), nevertheless, I got it and this Plug-In, now I(we) have "nearly" unlimited tone colors. I ain't mad lol? Time to get busy for real (fr)! Is there anything else stopping your creativity?

Maybe someone can help me. I do own a MPC One. Is it right that I have to buy the MPC software although I own the hardware version? And if not. How does it work to set up the software and the hardware? Thank you 🙏

Won’t be buying Mini D. Already own the Behringer Model D, and a few other hardware synths. I’ve had the MPC One for a year now and frankly I think it’s an amazing bit of kit and great value for money. I totally get the rationale of paid plug ins supporting further development of the platform, and it’s always your choice whether to buy any of them so I don’t see anything to complain about there. I got the MPC after 2.10 mainly as a studio brain and drum machine. It’s my MIDI sequencer, it’s connected to a Behringer UMC 1820 to give me 8 audio inputs, and it’s a pretty awesome drum machine (especially with all the Samples from Mars stuff bought at crazy value sale price). The built in plug in synths at the time were nice bonuses. Since then 2.11 added Hype and the Drumsynth and some others I don’t use, all for free. That’s pretty good going when you compare prices of MPC One versus any other vaguely ‘dawless’ alternatives. I have had instability issues using the UMC, and the occasional crash when configuring an additional external controller (Panorama P1) but other than that it’s been very stable in use. The issue with the UMC is also mostly cured now (it came down to loose USB connection at the MPC port), and all that extra connectivity also shows what the MPC is capable of. I guess my point is that extra paid for synth plug ins might be nice to have if collecting plug ins is your bag, but the MPC platform these days already does so much out of the box that they’re basically superfluous optional extras.
