It is refreshing to know someone else who listens to Blind Mr. Jones. To know another Black Man who enjoys shoegaze music. You are discussing bands only I seem to enjoy. My friends are clueless about this great genre. We would have fun swapping stories and thoughts.

The best part about the label “shoegaze” is that it initially was used as an insult from mass music media critics. It’s a nice middle finger to the ones who keep genuinely amazing music unknown.

Hi Dereck, I've just stumbled upon this rather old shoegaze video of yours. As a matter of fact I recently got me "Duck" by "Porto Geese" on vinyl, which definitly hits the shoegaze sound. Now I'm wondering, if you've already heard of Porto Geese and what you think of their music. "Duck" is definitely a recommendation. 👍

Wow!!!! Blind Mr. Jones is so great! Loving that! I know what you mean about the term "shoegaze." SO much can go under that. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the band Black Tambourine, which I consider shoegaze, but others consider "tween pop" - does it matter? They are just incredible, and that's what matters....

I feel the same about labels/genres. They can both define and limit. I had no idea a lot of the music I loved was in this shoegaze category. I totally love music and much of the stuff I like is connected to the UK. I have a feeling I will be watching a lot of your videos. I may as well subscribe now. I miss my lost vinyl. I've started collecting again. I can actually study to shoegaze. I usually can't do lyrics, but I think it has to do with the sustained notes. I'm betting you've already heard of Dif Juz? If not, check out their record Soundpool. I heard their song No Motion on a 4AD compilation and had to have it. (I believe they played on Cocteau Twins records). You seem open minded to different and new sounds. Oddly enough Dif Juz was connected to dub music (not to be confused with what a lot of US people think of as dubstep). I'm talking like Jamaica meets London original dub instrumentals. It also has morphed in to many things. If you have a decent subwoofer, you may want to check out the Antisocial Crew (specifically show #252 on the GetDarker TV youtube channel). If you're not a purist about how music is presented, you will hear something you can appreciate. Lots of atmosphere and these long sets are like a journey (I couldn't even digest it all at once). It's weird that I grew up in the States, yet I keep going back to the UK (and Canada) for new music. I think it has to do with the pure passion for the music over clothing, personas and fame common in the US. I can't get enough. So lucky to stumble across your channel. I think I'll check out your Johnny Marr video next! I loved his guitar sound at age 14 or 15 and felt he was way underrated. You've got some nice tastes!

Meant to say that something I like about the Antisocial Crew is that people of all colors/origins are grooving together like a family. It's quite beautiful actually.

Hey there, I really enjoyed your video. You clearly love great british guitar music, and your video was informative and inspiring. I don't play in a band but I make a lot of music by myself at home. I would be interested to get your opinion on one of my projects called "Spiracycon", as it has a shoegaze/krautrock sound to it. If you search Spiracycon Hallo there is a music video here on KZitem, and there is a three track E.P on Bandcamp under the same name. Hope to hear from you soon. x

I don't know a whole lot about shoegaze although i saw many of the bands live at the time - in 89 i was 17, so just b4 the dance scene came along for me (late 90) i was going to see ride, bark psychosis, woodentops, house of love, etc.. there is an american independeant film called mysterious skin that has a lot of shoegaze tracks on it do you know Beyond the Wildwood dereck? its a bit b4 shoegaze per se c. 87/88 - its a lot of "C86" bands doing syd barrett tracks - thats worth a listen.
