Start a quiet time routine with him. If you see he isn’t going to nap tell him he can read books or quietly play in his room. Don’t allow him to come out to have free rein of all his toys, tv, etc. You’d be surprised at how much a little quiet time helps even if they don’t nap. They will also fall asleep a lot of times after just playing quietly for a few minutes

My son is 3 and he loves his nap! He starts preschool in the fall and they have a scheduled nap midday. I think it’s common to continue naps. Regardless they can be big helpers! Give him a rag or some small things to help! It takes longer but it’s good to show them!

I know it will be super stressful at first but if you get him involved cleaning with you now it will help you in the long run. I get stressed with the mess but I try not to show it while my little fella helps wash dishes or wipes the table. And then he smiles real big like look at me mama Im helping and its worth it. I got this from the book hunt gather parent and it really helped me stop being so anxious about having to do it all myself. Use those little helpers. Love ya girl

My niece would try and fight sleep and naps, but she NEEDED them and I think was a little over 4 when she finally gave them up. Don’t give up! Haha! The quiet rest time people have suggested sounds good too! Gives you both a chance to take a break❤

I kept the naps going with my daughter until she started preschool. Even then she’d come home and nap. It’s about keeping them tuckered out enough during the day, bath routine, outdoor playtime… that fresh air, daily walks - it’s up to you to keep the routine. He can keep napping hunnie 💟

My almost 4.5 year old still naps... I just tell him he needs to be in his room but doesn't have to sleep. He can look at books but ends up falling asleep. My 3 year old still naps too and will be implementing a quiet time once he starts not wanting to nap.

I think that’s exactly it, they start refusing naps or skipping (the could last 6+ months) of some nap days and some off days, slowly doing more off days but they start being able to do stuff for longer periods of time without having to need “mom” every second. Makes it easier! My 3yr old probably naps 2-3x a week now but super short, which is nice, bed time is easier. 😅

My daughter is 3.5 and needs a daily nap and goes down willingly haha sometimes she'll push it from 12 to 1 which is fine if she needs to unwind first but by then I can see she's tired and I'll ask her and she'll say yes, use the bathroom, lay down and conk out! Haha

Maybe if he refuses the nap, you could always still have him do some "quiet time" in his bedroom during the nap time slot?! That's what I used to do with both my boy's(they definitely don't nap anymore. They are 14 and 11 now)!!! Haha.

You go mom! ❤my toddler will be 4 in November and still napping. The naps are shorter so I know they’ll end soon but that time of quiet is needed for me to reset and tackle the next stretch of time. You are doing a great job and your toddler is happy!✌🏾❤️🙏🏾

Exactly but we put the crib mattress on the floor and read to him. They would fall asleep in a matter of minutes. Fresh air everyday is usually a easy way to get sleep. Note baby dates in his room. Boundaries are healthy.

If he's cranky from not taking his nap, then he's most likely not ready to give up the nap. Nap and sleep refusal are normal for his age group because of developmental changes. Start a quiet time routine or change up your schedule. He should have 6 hours between sleep times. Once he wakes up in the morning, give him six hours before you try to put him down for a nap. When my son was doing this, I'd put him down in bed like normal but with his stuffed animals. I'd turn off the light and set it up like a nap, and he'd quietly play with his stuffed animals in his bed until he tuckered out on his own. You can look up sleep schedules for 2 and 3 year olds and how to deal with sleep regression and nap refusal. I've had 4 kids, and all of them napped until they were 4 or 5 years old, but there were plenty of days where they refused naps here and there.

im a FIRM believer that kids should be napping all the way into kindergarten! stopping naps at 3 is going to be so hard on you bc hes gonna get so tired & fussy throughout the day. our schools here do naps until 4 bc they still take naps in preschool.

I DEFINITLY would not be ending naps that young, my son was still napping at 4, even 5 years old some days. They really do still need a nap that young, so I wouldnt give it up, just stick with the routine, he may have days that it takes longer to get to sleep but if he doesnt fall asleep i'd let him stay in his bed and "rest" and he may fall asleep after a while. I'd let him have a book to look at and that may be enough to help keep him occupied but not enough to. Be stimulating him. I'd also try to not give him anything with sugar or red 40 dye before his nap as they can be stimulators. Dont give up on the naps, stick with it - you'll be VERY thankful for pushing thru and get him back into his nap routine.

Why??? Why is just impossible for you to let your child be by himself for just one second if he refuses to nap?? And you need to take care of other things?? Why?! Can they not be in a high chair entertaining themselves with food? Or the crib in the same room as you while you tidy up?? Can you really not just let them be and learn that it's OK to not have mommy and daddy every waking second right in front of them entertaining them?? Plz explain!
