As a NIN main, I think that this is one of the best guide videos for NIN that I've seen. WeskAlber has a great leveling guide; but this vid it pretty great for showing what it feels like to really play NIN. It is crazy how often I see people put down Doton. I thought maybe I was crazy for not using it. But yeah; all math points to never using it in single target applications unless you can sneak it out for free in the beginning of the fight.

@@zabban NIN is periodically busy. SAM is a fairly consistent swish-swish with occasional big moves. I find positionals generally easier with NIN. Maintaining Huton is much easier than SAM's 2 buffs. Huton can be acquired and maintained both in and out of combat. I'm still trying to test this; but I think NIN does better AoE dps in dungeons. Last I checked (a while ago admittedly) the average NIN and the average SAM do the same aDPS according to fflogs, but SAM has the higher ceiling. To me, this suggests that NIN is easier to learn. The mudras aren't really complicated. Just let them occupy sequential spaces somewhere, like Ctrl-(123) with Ctrl-4 for execute. Then just remember 1-2 Raiton!. 2-1 Fireball! Things like that. If it weren't for the TCJ skill being named what it is; I'd have no idea which mudra does what.

thing about doton is it's an aoe dot which acts a little different from other dots in that it'll apply the first tick almost immediately meaning you're getting 9x 100 potency per use (you can test on a target dummy) which is higher dmg than a raiton's 800 potency. Only useful if you're absolutely sure that single mob isn't going to move/die before it ends however, which is almost never.

As always your guide was a blast to watch! Great stuff my dude! That said, let's adress the whole Doton thing. I feel it's very unfortunate that this is something you go on about as you're, well, partly wrong. While using Doton on single target makes little sense at first glance there are very viable reasons that you could, and SHOULD use it on single target. You might have noticed already, but the Trick that comes up after your opener, so the 2nd Trick in a fight, comes up before Shadow Fang does. So how do you deal with this? This leads to either delaying Trick by one GCD, using it after your 1-2-3 combo- you don't want to do this as it delays Trick. You can use Kassatsu directly after Trick, but the same issue with Shadow Fang not being avaliable after Kassatsu in future trick windows basically just pushes your problem further ahead without actually fixing anything. You could opt for pressing Trick and waiting half a second to go directly into Shadow Fang- but delaying your GCD isn't something you want to do. So- that Raiton that you're left with after your initial trick window? Yeah, you should Doton it. This effectively delays your rotation by the 0.5 sec you need, while making you go +-0 in DPS. It's worth noting that Doton is 100 more potency than Raiton is, as ground effects tick once when they're used so using Doton directly after your first Trick window is a potential gain in potency, although the extra 0.5 sec needed to be spent to get access to Doton as opposed to Raiton basically cancels this out 100 potency gain. That said, it's not a loss in DPS. It also realigns your rotation for the rest of the fight. Huton reapplication fills the same function in content where you don't have Armor Crush. That doesn't mean you should go and Doton every Raiton, as you'd end up delaying your rotation, but it does mean that Doton has a viable place in single target scenarios for people who know what they're doing.

ninja hasn't really had ping issues since they made mudras gcd actions. It's not any more ping affected than other fast gcd jobs like monk and samurai
@Ace-tg7ic
3 жыл бұрын
As a NIN main who has terrible ping, the ping will not be an issue at all. Unless you’re potting, you don’t really ever have to double weave on this class. You can move mug to right after the first GCD in the opener. You might have to move a Bhavacakra or two outside of trick but that really isn’t a big deal. Things can get a bit finicky if you have an unstable connection/packet loss, but ping will not affect you the same way it does MCH for example. And for the identity, I personally find it nice because it gives me some space to do some quick mental math for my gauge to see if I should save up for a bunshin or not, but that’s a bit out of scope for what this video entails. Theres also of course just making sure to hit positionals and keeping Huton up. There’s always something you can do in downtime

So here's the thing. Due to how ticks of Doton (and all other ground aoes) work, Doton IS actually a DPS gain over Raiton on single target in a vacuum, for 900 damage total. However in practice this is only the case IF: -The enemy stands in Doton for the whole duration -Doton is the first gcd you cast after Trick Attack -You don't lose a gcd or any other damage source inside the trick window from the extra button press for Doton It's extremely hard to manage and basically not worth the risk, but it IS sometimes better.
