Vila Viçosa
Vila Viçosa é uma vila portuguesa no Distrito de Évora.
Conhecida como a “Princesa do Alentejo”. Apesar de pequena, é uma das mais preciosas e encantadoras jóias do Alentejo, uma “vila-museu”.
Vila cheia de História, com um património riquíssimo e invejável criado pelo Homem ao longo dos séculos.
O destaque vai para o mármore, que há muito tempo tem um papel fundamental na economia do concelho.
Primeiramente, ao longo dos tempos, Vila Viçosa foi ocupada por, entre outros, romanos e muçulmanos. Conquistada em 1217 durante o reinado de D. Afonso II.
No século XIII, D. Dinis mandou construir um castelo e uma muralha à volta de toda a vila.
A construção do Paço Ducal de Vila Viçosa, o mais emblemático monumento da povoação, teve início em 1502, a mando do Duque Jaime I de Bragança. Foi então que Vila Viçosa se tornou a sede do Ducado de Bragança.
O Paço Ducal de Vila Viçosa… um esplêndido palácio real que não tem igual na arquitectura portuguesa. É por isso que você deve visitá-lo.
Igreja dos Agostinhos Terreiro do Paço (em frente do Paço Ducal). A Igreja dos Agostinhos é um majestoso templo barroco, Monumento Nacional construído no século XVII, que serve de Panteão para os Duques de Bragança.
