Vila e Medieval de Marvão
Vila de Marvão, assim denominada pela Rainha D. Maria II, está localizada no distrito de Portalegre, no Alto Alentejo.
Fica situada no topo da Serra do Sapoio, a cerca de 860metros de altitude, próxima da fronteira de Espanha.
Marvão foi, em tempos, conquistada aos muçulmanos por D. Afonso Henriques, tendo mais tarde sido novamente reconquistada pelos mouros, em 1190. No ano de 1226, D. Sancho II, deu à população um dos primeiros forais régios do Alentejo.
Considerado monumento nacional medieval.
Festival Al Mossassa leva Marvão até ao tempo da sua fundação.
Durante três dias, a vila de Marvão recua no tempo, até à era da sua fundação pelo líder militar e religioso sufista Ibn Marwan, no séc. IX.
Entre 29 de setembro e 1 de outubro de 2023, as muralhas de Marvão albergaram recriações históricas.
Ibn Marwan foi um líder militar e religioso sufista, considerado o fundador de Marvão e de Badajoz. Ibn Marwan mandou edificar o Castelo de Marvão, em 876 d.C..

Os seus vestígios históricos datam dos períodos do Paleolítico e Neolítico e encontram-se expostos no Museu Municipal.
O Convento de Nossa Senhora da Estrela foi fundado em 1488.
A sul do declive do Castelo de Marvão, no centro do Parque Natural da Serra de S. Mamede, estão à vista as ruínas da cidade romana de Ammaia. De onde saíram muitas pedras que foram utilizadas na construção das muralhas de Marvão.

Vila de Marvão, named after Queen D. Maria II, is located in the district of Portalegre, in Alto Alentejo.
It is located at the top of Serra do Sapoio, around 860 meters above sea level, close to the Spanish border.
Marvão was once conquered from the Muslims by D. Afonso Henriques, and was later reconquered again by the Moors in 1190. In 1226, D. Sancho II gave the population one of the first royal charters in the Alentejo.
