As someone who has played Fortnite since it’s beginning. I love seeing it grow. The storyline has expanded from some background lore to a full on layered story with comics exploring it even deeper. New gameplay mechanics keep getting added, making old gameplay almost look like a full on different game. One thing you forgot to mention was UEFN (Unreal Engine for Fortnite). It will change Fortnite forever. It was announced over a year ago, and finally came out this week. It basically gives builders the Unreal Engine, to build their own maps. It makes Creative go from a bonus, to a full on equal to BR. People can make live events, maps with different artstyles, animations, custom vehicles, roller coasters. People can even remake the old maps from previous seasons. If you can think of it, you can make it. It will change Fortnite forever.

As a reluctant fan of the game and of live service in general, I can appreciate Fortnite’s success being reinvested into giving free and paying players content to enjoy. There’s always new challenges, features, weapons and more reasonably priced cosmetics than most industry peers. As obnoxious as the game’s presence in pop culture can be, the developers certainly haven’t taken it for granted and have tried to expand in a way that benefits the player base. Not to mention, I appreciate notable creators who contributed to the popularity of the game being immortalised in cosmetics in the game itself. That’s a really neat way to acknowledge them.

It's funny that you brought up Minecraft because I myself am old enough to remember clearly when Minecraft was "the worst game ever made" that was "ruining the industry" by introducing "little kids and causals", so when Fortnite began getting those same accusations a few years later, I tried not to judge it too harshly. Yeah it's kinda cringy, but I've always appreciated how it wears it's heart on it's sleeve. The devs obviously have a lot of love for this game, and take great care in making every character feel unique and like themselves.

@@ddman12playz22 The problem is you're investing time and maybe money into a game that could be unrecognizable in half a year and you have no way to go back to how it was*. In most other games, when new maps, weapons, etc drop, you can still enjoy the old content and the new content at the same time, but if you played Fortnite back in 2018 and then took a break until now, there's nothing left from back then other than some weapons (with vastly different stats and models in some cases) and cosmetics. * You can technically play the old maps now but neither option is even close to perfect, you can either: A, play on the new UEFN creative versions of the old maps, which is just new Fortnite masked as the old versions, and is limited by memory restrictions and the fact that only the Chapter 1 maps are allowed, no Chapter 2 or 3 or B, modded private servers of older versions of the game, which are obscure, difficult to access for most, completely unsupported by Epic, and reliant on a host and other players to coordinate to even get a match running

@@TacticalBaguette on an alt account but i argue that the fact the game is constantly changing is what makes it interesting... if it didnt constantly evolve it would get boring... plus the game is significantly better than what it used to be... chapter 1 map is only liked so much because of nostalgia imo
@TacticalBaguette
Жыл бұрын
@@ddman_1289 I'm not saying the new changes are bad, and I welcome further changes to the game, I just want the ability to play the game as it was whenever I choose to. I do like many of the new changes the game has added since I started late Season 2, and I'll continue to hop on and try the new updates whenever they come out, but there's something that was so charming about the simplicity of the game back then that I just want to go back and try out all of the goofy strats I never got to do and would never be able to pull off in the current versions. I honestly think that if we had the ability to continue playing the previous map whenever a new one launched (With most challenges locked to the new chapter's map to incentivize playing it and recycled seasonal updates for the old maps to keep it somewhat fresh), the excessive nostalgia hype would be much less since the people that just want a hit of nostalgia can get their 2 games in before they get bored, and those that genuinely enjoyed those versions can keep playing it their preferred way. Basically the way I see it is that a game can evolve while also keeping the old content around, to my knowledge you can still play the original PUBG and Apex maps all these years later when they've evolved just as much as Fortnite has.

Didn't expect this to be positive. I've had quite a complicated history with the game. I was never that much a fan of the gameplay (It's the only shooting game I play.), but I loved the art style, story, map changes, and the concept. I would play a bit quit and would come back a few seasons later. So I ended up playing during Ch1S3, Ch1S6, Ch1S9 and Ch1SX. After Ch2 started I took the game a bit more seriously and this is when I played the game the most. This phase lasted all the way up through Ch2S5. I quit during Ch2S6 because I wasn't that interested in the new season, I got distracted by my birthday which was around the start of the season and before I knew it was the next season. Then FOMO hit me and I stopped playing. I returned during Ch4S1 when GMTK made a video on the game and I found out Zero Build existed. (I had been avoiding all other Fortnite videos for the fear of getting dragged back into the game.) That made the difference and means I can play the game more casually and have more fun.

i really wasnt expecting this video to be this good but WOW i really enjoyed it and i look forward to seeing more of your content! and i really love the view you took on fortnite - because yeah, its popular to just hate on (or baselessly love for some people) but i think you described the game as a whole pretty much perfectly!

i agree with everything you mentioned up until the end. I AM NOT A FAN OF SBMM in fortnite! when you are an above average player you get punished for playing the game your own way. I have to team up in squad builds with 3 cracked goblins instead of playing fills chilling so i don't get steamrolled. sbmm should only exist for brand new players of the game so they can get used to it and not quit early. moments ive noticed that opened my eyes is creative has no sbmm so the gameplay is more fluid and unexpected. you never know what ur gonna get. great video as always Aqua

also quit addition I normally play public match squads win grinding with the boys so like I said sbmm doesn't account for when I have no one to play so team fills is unplayable for the top 10% of players, you practically need a full team to not die on land.

After watching Albino's video on why Fortnite won, I expected that to pretty much be the end-all argument for why this game ultimately did so well, and why it is among the best modern games in existence... However this video elaborates pretty well, if not better on what other factors and such make the game solid and fundamentally successful at heart. While some details I think are pretty weird takes (especially individual weapons balancing and stances of items in Fortnite, both cosmetic and in combat), this overall is a wonderful vid. Great work! During its prime my buddy and I were actually like great at the game. We met through the game and just became great friends. He could build like a god and I just could not miss with anything that had a scope. He push high ground while I held the low ground and just nailed anyone who tried to retreat. It was just a great dynamic. Something no other game was able to give us due to our completely different skill sets.

Fantastic video. Fortnite is such a fun game to play, and there's nothing quite like getting a squad of the bois together on a Friday night and playing Battle Royale while drinking sodas and eating pizza. Fortnite is so well designed and accessible, and they are very active at listening to the community and issuing fixes. It grinds my gears when people just say "stupid silly kids game, so cringe" as an argument for why the game is bad. It's got consistent updates keeping things fresh, with minimal bugs and great cosmetics. It's definitely less predatory than other games as any items you can buy in-game are cosmetic only and provide no player advantage. Like you said, you don't have to spend a dime on the game if you don't want to, and no gameplay content will be locked behind a paywall. Fortnite is the best and most consistent live service game out there, and anyone who says otherwise is kidding themselves. Again, thanks for the video! I really enjoyed it.

agreed, as much as my sister makes fun of me for spending money on the game, the cosmetics are amazing and (unlike most shooters) actually let you see the cosmetic item since it's in a 3rd person perspective and come on you cannot convince to buy any of the collabs, who doesn't wanna play as goku or spider man or master chief or naruto or rick and morty

Absolutely amazing job with writing this video. You critiqued everything about the game so well and went in depth with everything and I really appreciate that. Fortnite has become a huge addiction for me last year when I decided to give it a go after thinking it was cringe. I've been playing it nearly everyday since and I don't see myself getting tired of it anytime soon because of it's constant updates. It really does keep the game fresh wanting you to stick around for what happens in the next update. There were 2 things that you forgot to mention though which are the live events and the developer and community interactions. While only experiencing 2 live events myself, (being Collision and Fracture) I can tell that these events really are something special to appreciate. At the end of every 2 seasons, there will be a live event to drive the story forward into the next season. Some of these events like Fracture do get a negative reputation but at least they still get some enjoyment out of people like me. Second, the community and developer interaction. A few times in the past, a concept like a POI (Such as Haunted Hills) or a skin (Like Tender Defender) will get a lot of attention online with one of the main places being the r/FortNiteBR reddit. Not only that, but sometimes clips will get noticed by an epic employee and get acknowledged in game. Like that one time when someone tried to perform a rescue mission with a golf cart to get someone off the side of the map but he ended up killing him so a tombstone was added to pay homage to that clip. Stuff like this along with the things you mentioned in the video is why I love Fortnite so much and why I don't see my obsession dying out anytime soon.

I used to play comp Fortnite, a big part of the game is controlling the builds around people so they can't run away. This is also the mechanic that made me quit, as fights quickly become a matter of flashy building tricks to finally catch ur opponent off guard. Defense is just too powerful in Fortnite, and to reliably beat someone who is playing defense you need to be leagues above them or just stop trying until they feel like fighting

Fortnite is the only shooter/BR I can consistently return to after months of ignoring and still immediately enjoy myself and catch a few Ws. I’ve tried my hand at Apex, Warzone even PUBG. None of them have held me as much as Fortnite over the last 5 years. Also huge props for highlighting H1Z1 and it’s dominance on twitch. That game and the twitch scene was my life when I was 17-18 years old. I would hot drop Pleasant Valley while me and my friends waited for our League of Legends queues to start 😂

I'll never forget getting on the game when they made no build mode after years of not touching it because I didn't want to get good at building. I don't know if it was intentional or how, but I was greeted with 950 vbucks for the battle pass and I loved that, yes it can be seen as the game trying to manipulate you into getting addicted by grinding the game to afford the next one, but I loved this addition. It allowed me to get all the cool new stuff and if I didn't work for the vbucks to get a future battle pass, then that's my own fault, especially since they give you PLENTY of time to.

Great video. I still just despise the monetization of any free to play game. Like, I just rather spend one batch of money, and then "own" the game and everything in it. if i wanted to get everything and become a collector in todays gaming market, i would have to drop thousands per game. how much did it cost me 10 years ago? $100 for the collectors edition of a game. thats it....

I've never played Fortnite up until C3S2 as I was never interested with the battle royale genre and like you mentioned in the video I was pretty sick of seeing Fortnite having those "cringe" media presence. But with C3S2 getting a no build mode one of my friends convinced me to play with him and since then I've been really enjoying this game. Plus once again like you mentioned in the video Epic Games really keeps this game fresh, you really get hyped with each season or chapter to see what they bring to the table next (skin wise, map wise, gun wise etc.)

Also to mention, the parental controls are something that can be noticed (haven't seen full video, sorry if you already mentioned it) I'm 14 and the parental controls are blocking me from alot of things but its a fair feature in terms of how much children play the game, and giving the guardians more control.

I absolutely agree. While Fortnite has it's issues, it's good monetarily. They offer a lot of awesome cosmetics and emotes (which I purchase often) as well as rewarding battle passes, but these aren't necessary. I have friends who are much better than me and have never spent anything on the game. The biggest Pay-to-win moment Fortnite had was when a new glider type was released where the player stood on top of it, making it impossible to shoot them. This was patched quickly though and was a very minor advantage. also nice cutaway at 29:49

Gosh back in what? 2018? When Fortnite was first gaining popularity it was the shit. Still remember gooning up with the squad at 2 am in college. Now I’m old and can’t keep up with the bob-the-builder strats, and have a job. But fuck! If early Fortnite wasn’t some good times.

As someone who has never played Fortnite but have watched many Fortnite videos, here's my critique of the game: I love how the devs are passionate about the game, especially their willingness to collaborate with so many companies to introduce popular characters from another franchise. However, I think the constant updates and adding new characters might be both a benefactor and a detriment to its longevity. Yes, constant updates keeps the game fresh and interesting, but that comes at the cost of always having to find and make the new content. It also kind of creates a separation of one community who prefers the old style and the other who is either indifferent or likes this constant change. In my opinion, as long as the devs know what they are doing and are not upsetting the community, I am fine with their actions. I heard complaints about how random the game has become, and I admit that I am one of them too. Imagine someone comes up to you to talk about how John Wick teams up with Thanos to take on Rick Sanchez and Goku using a golden Scar and a pump shotgun. To someone who does not play Fortnite, that sounds ridiculous, and it is rightfully so. It is probably a me thing, but I don't really like the idea of merging so many characters from different universes just for them to go fight each other with guns and cars, though feel free to dispute my claim in the comments. This mixing of characters also makes me wonder how people would reminesce the game a decade later. Would they say "oh yeah remember the time when I used an rpg to snipe the Doom Slayer from across the map?" With so much content making the game complex, there is a higher chance for more memorable moments, but it also makes it more difficult to find the memorable moments. Overall, as someone who has kept tabs with Fortnite for a while but has never played it, I think it is heading in the right direction. I like the visuals and sory telling. As long as the devs have content to give to their audience , then I don't see Fortnite dying anytime soon.

The skins really make very little impact on moment to moment gameplay. Most of the time people will be reminiscing about mechanics or map changes. Right now the loot pool is geared heavily to high powered weapons like a one shot shotgun and an AR that has an SMG fire rate and I'm sure that is something people will be talking about long in the future
