What is that bag/pouch you're running at the very back of your belt for?
@MasonsGunRoom
6 ай бұрын
It's an IFAK. A personal med kit for treating injuries and gun shot wounds. It contains your essentials like chest seals, hemostatic powder, gauze, bandages, airway tubes, gloves, tourniquet, alcohol wipes, etc. If you're at a local indoor range, no real need to have one. But if you're on you're own property or out hunting with no one around, it's nice to have. Better to have it and not need it, then to need it and not have it 👍

@@MasonsGunRoom I applaud you for being smart and prepared by having a medical kit on hand. I do want to offer some unsolicited advice, though: it's a very, very bad idea to place items in the small of the back, because if one were to fall on that spot, it can result in a spinal cord injury. On a side note, you would be surprised just how many gun ranges are run by morons that don't have the basic essentials on hand. I've been to an indoor range that didn't have first aid kits or an AED.

@@grantgillum8768 Thanks for the heads up, that's a good point. I've been looking into shrinking and relocating my IFAK since its a pain to sit anywhere with it on lol. And it's crazy that a range wouldn't have any trained medical professionals on standby or a kit! I know you sign a waiver before you shoot, but damn, you'd think they'd at least have a basic first aid kit.

Try Winchester white box 147 grain JHP. From what I have heard, many 9mm pistols prefer the longer ogive of the heavy bullets. I practice with 147 grain ball and carry the JHP in my Canik TP9 SF Elite and my Taurus GX4. Never had a problem. I will be buying an Apollo 11 fairly soon. By the way, I photographed the Apollo 11 launch on the morning of 16 July 1969. The Texas newspaper I worked for sent me to the Cape.

I'll try and get my hands on some, thanks for the recommendation. I found the Apollo loves any round nose hollow points like the Norma MHPs. I was able to run 250 rounds of the Normas with 0 malfunctions. And very nice! I bet that was a sight to behold!

I just subscribed, great video and great pistol. I bought the compact and love it. It’s the second run so problems were ironed out and no mim parts. It runs like a clock. The HP issues burned themselves away after a couple hundred rounds and a good cleaning. No follow up video? I noticed you haven’t put anything out in a while, hope all is well.

@MasonsGunRoom
7 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! 😁 Not a stupid question! You might be right on some holsters, like leathers and light bearings that index off the light itself, but there are slight differences between 2011s and 1911s that make most nicely fit holsters incompatible. I just got off the phone with LFA, and they said they're currently looking into companies to work with on holsters, but nothing at the moment. I also ended up calling Safariland and asking if any holsters they had would be compatible with the Apollo, and they said no. Custom kydex might be the only option right now 👍

Dude, I don't trust my own shooting enough to leave my ATV parked that close to the line of fire 🥸 Other than that I agree with your review completely. I have to clean my LFA Apollo 11 tonight since I ran 150 rounds through it yesterday. I too had a couple of interesting failures to feed or eject while running Remington Golden Sabre 115 grain JHP ammo. It handled a variety of FMJ without a hitch. This isn't the best gun I own but it *IS * the newest and I am quite pleased with it. Have fun running your 1000 round test!

Thanks for the feedback! I too am quite pleased with mine! I had a few rounds of Norma MHP that seem to feed the best, but I didn't have enough to be conclusive. Have you checked out the MAC 191 DS9? I like to see it compared to LFA as both are under 1k. LFA appears to have MIM parts and a 3D printed grip, where the MAC does not.
@MasonsGunRoom
6 ай бұрын
I just looked it up, very nice looking firearm. I'll see if I can get my hands on one 👍 Originally, the Apollo did have 2-3 MiM parts. Spoke to a rep at LFA for an hour or so and asked him some questions for my 1000 round review, and he said they are machining everything in house now. They were using MiM parts to get the gun out in a reasonable time, but no longer do, and will be offering a program to replace the MiM parts for earlier models. And the grip, I get it. I personally have no problems with the 3D printed grip and actually quite like it, but I can understand the hesitation. Both very solid options 👍 Thanks for watching! 🙏
@OregonBladez
6 ай бұрын
I wasn't necessarily saying the 3D printing is a bad thing, there are definitely quality differences between a hobby grade and an industrial 3D printer. Personally, I like the look of its grip better than my MAC and it appears to me to have a grip texture advantage over MAC. When I purchased my MAC, I had both it and the LFA in my cart. Ultimately, MIM or lack thereof was the deciding factor for me. I'd love to see them head to head either way. And if that barrel was ported...
