We are considering a new direction at the ITG, ASMR recordings of Irish diesel loco sounds to help you relax…
No, not really, but it still sounds good.
Following the flood damage in November 2023, A39R has been worked on for three months to clean, dry, inspect, re-oil and repair the traction motors.
The time has come to start testing.
Saturday 20th January 2024, and this is our third week of applying load to the traction motors for set periods to apply heat to them to try to mitigate the effects of the flood water. We simply do not have the engineering facilities, funds or volunteer numbers to consider dismantling the locos and fully rebuilding everything.
The loco has brakes applied, and a braked carriage and loco ahead of it, and loads of scotches in front of the wheels just in case. It then has notch 1 power applied and is run for 15 minutes. Power is then shut off, the motors allowed to cool, and then the loco is moved forward slightly and the exercise repeated several more times. The idea is to apply heat to the traction motors to fully dry them out, slowly and carefully. We have taken advice from various groups on this, we didn’t just make this up ourselves!
At the time of writing, this process is going well, but it is a long, painstaking and cautious process.
We thought you'd enjoy a session of A class ASMR.... a startup, a brief move, then 15 minutes of relaxing, soothing, gentle thrash, to help you clear your mind (if not your lungs) and relax.
Enjoy.
