Wow, I sort of remember reading about the line to Newcastle Station being replaced but never really looked into it. I lived at Fern Bay for a year in the late 90's so spent many hours travellieng back and forth from Sydney to Newcastle each day via the Newcastle ferry and trains. The light rail looks nice but sort of sad the old line is gone...

It's great that the old Newcastle stations are getting a new lease of life and not being demolished like Wickham

So many memories of my bestie and I hopping on and off at this very station, back in the days post-high school, pre-employment, catching the morning train from up the valley before we had drivers licences or cars. Bum around Newcastle all day until the train home. Personally, I don't like what has been done to the CBD, too many tall soulless boxes, Newcastle has lost its character. But that's just my opinion, I'm a sentimental old 90s kid that spent a bit of time in old Newcastle town visiting the rellos.

Which station interests you and what sign? I can go in and have a look for you. It only takes me about fifteen minutes to get into town from where I live.

That's actually really nice. I remember being worried that Civic and Newy stations would just sit and rot when they closed them.. but I love what they've done.

Hi Phil, many thanks for the video. I live in Newcastle but you beat me there. The reason for the name of the park is that the saw tooth brick building behind platform two is the old Civic Workshops building and that is now occupied by the Newcastle Regional Museum.

What is sad about it. Newcastle is getting a much needed facelift. The old CBD has not looked so good for a very long time if ever. Do you even live in Newcastle to be in a position to give an informed judgement?
@UmbraBree

@@davidberriman5903 i do. Its worse off overall. The direct rail link between Sydney and Newcastle's CBD's were the holy grail of transportation. CBD to CBD connections are rare and the light rail is worse than the old trains.
@davidberriman5903

@@UmbraBree The business district is moving west. Even Newcastle City Council has moved that way. Much of the office space in the old CBD was vet dated and not built in a way that facilitated refurbishment. The old CBD is becoming more high density residential. The one stupid and short sighted mistake that seems to have been made is that the easement for the Western exit for the light rail does not seem to have been reserved. That was the case about six or eight weeks ago. If that is developed then we will be left with a useless bloody toy. I will not use the thing until it is a useful network. I go into town fairly regularly and it easier for me to drive than to take buses to Wickham and then light rail.
