When I rapped, I wanted this scene on my mixtape…. “Never did get that right…. It’s funny what u do pick up tho”…. I understood. Never really had that kinda influence in my life that the boy had. I miss when most hood movies had subtle messages in scenes like this. “Pain” in the background is just the cherry on top for many scenes in this classic movie. I can relate to Shep too in this scene. “ I never did get that right... it’s funny what you do pick up tho “ and then that laugh at 1:07 sticks with me so much being that I grew up with an older brother who lacked an influence in my life due to his struggles and negative environment as a kid. I was born in 2000 and he was in 87’ he loves this movie and ironically I just now watched it today and love it as well. I relate so much to the character Birdie and somewhat to Kyle as well because I love to play basketball like my good and bad side Although I was a good kid I also had a bad side struggling with anger problems and Always was told never to follow my older brothers footsteps, I always would be around him and did pickup things from him unfortunately making similar mistakes with school, drugs, and getting in trouble I tended to make similar mistakes @ 1:07 I laughed the same exact way which then lead to me impulsively crying a bit but it felt good to let some tears out because me and my brother are not on good terms today but I feel like making things better with him because of this movie

You know when I was a kid and I seen this movie, I always had a different point of view from the adults on birdie. They thought he was just a bad guy, when really he was emotionally damaged. Everyone he ever loved abandoned him including his brother, who not only did he love, but he worshiped him. The reason why he always bullied and picked on boogaloo, is because the honest to God truth is, boogaloo In all likelihood was him before he probably lost his innocence. It hurt him to see kyle, Because kyle was everything he wanted to be; but never could become. Not to mention his brother who he worshiped, scene more himself in kyle then him: Which hurt him even more.

You could see at the end of this scene, that Shep knows he let him down, as well as his mother and the community, but especially his brother, yet his brother became someone he can't relate with.
