Civil Society group, Act Now PNG has called the plan by the Lands minister to make 80% of customary land bankable, as another Land Grabbing Scam.
Act Now’s Campaign Coordinator, Eddie Tanago, says the minister should be looking into the canceling all illegal Special Agriculture Business Leases.
Tanago says customary land supports a huge economy, conservatively estimated to be worth more than K40 billion a year in subsistence lifestyles and small-scale agriculture.
Minister Justin Tkatchenko, is of the strong view that making land a part of surety for business, will benefit people more.
