Thanks so much! It took me WEEKS to understand All the other teachers didn’t mention how it would turn positive so i was confused I was like “TURN THIS POSITIVE? THATS GONNA MAKE MY ANSWER WRONG! That’s ridiculous..” Now i got extra homework to get done because i delayed it bc I couldn’t understand IF ONLY I FOUND THIS VIDEO SOONER

The - in front of the parenthesis is an understood -1 which needs to be "distributed" (or multiplied) to each of the terms inside the parenthesis just like in the second example of the video. Another way to write it is 10x-1(3x+7). When you distribute the -1 you get 10x-3x-7. You would then combine the like terms of 10x-3x which gives you 7x. This leaves you with the simplified answer of 7x-7. I hope this helps!

how to answer 2m- -m

If you have 2m - - m then an easier way to look at it is 2m+m (when you subtract a negative it is the same as adding). Another way to say the same thing is 2m+1m (the 1 is what we call an "understood 1"). 2m+1m simplifies to 3m so 3m would be your answer. I hope that this helps!

If there’s no “( )” (sorry i forgot what it’s called) Is there still a undestood 1?

A positive 1 being out front will not make any changes when you multiply it in so it would be fine if ( ) were not shown, but if you are subtracting then the ( ) make a big difference in the second polynomial I hope this helps!
