You should do an update video. What kind of fish did you end up putting in your pond?

I've been told one should not use too bentonite. Though obviously a stock pond does not have clear H20, this clay can really cloud it up. True???

How does this feel on your feet when swimming in pond? Is it not noticeable or is it kind of a squishy blob top layer?

Fascinating watching people who are professionals, no matter the line of work. Watching him swing the bag to spread the bentonite, it was perfectly executed....until of course the bag breaks, shame to the manufacturer who'd sell this material in such a crappy bag. nice work though! you really know your business.

Hi Darcy, I am myself working on a pond. Here in Thailand, I can only get Sodium Bentonite with a polymer mix in it. Do you have pure Sodium Bentonite or is it also a mix?

This might sound silly but how does that whole fill in? Is it entirely rain water or pumped from a well or something?

That is how to successfully use bentonite clay to seal a pond provided you has a soil porosity problem. For optimum results mix with and compact the soil. if you have water in pond you can spread a soil floc polymer("DAMIT") on water surface and then scatter bentonite clay over polymer, this is the method I used to seal my pond. I could not find bentonite in my area so I used cheap all natural clay "Special Kitty" cat litter. Polymer is pricey so do the research as to the type leak you have, type soil and decide if it will work for you. My soil was a mix sandy clay and the leak was at the deepest part of pond near dam face. My opinion is it will work very well in that type soil even to seal the pond bottom. If you go with a polymer make sure you follow application directions.

IT SEEMS TO BE FINE - BUT HAVING LITTLE DOUBTS., 1. WHAT IF THE WATER HAD DRIED DURING SUMMER AND CLAY CREAKS DUE TO EXPOSURE TO SUN WHICH LEADS TO BENTONITE LOSES ITS WATER CONTENT DUE TO EVAPORATION WHICH IN NEXT SEASON AFTER WATER GOT FILLED UP WEATHER THE BENTONITE STILL HOLD THE WATER LEAKAGE? 2. BENTONITE IS SAFE FOR POND ECOSYSTEM?

Water acts as a sealant, meaning water doesn't soak into bentonite like it does soil, make sense? In other words it absorbs the water, and makes a sealant.

Actually there are 2 ways to apply. The " Blanket Method " which you mention and the " Mixed Method " in which you see in the video. Keep in mind that the mixed method is the preferred method as it incorporates the soil as part of the sealed layer. The only thing this video did not show is that after mixing, it is recommended to roll the soil and compact it. And yes, he does know how to operate the machinery. I have been an operator for many years. Most are not as smooth at the controls.

Bentonite is cheap, natural, environmentally friendly and if well done by people who know their shit can last for centuries. People didn't wait for geomembrane to build long lasting pond.
