This video provides a step-by-step tutorial on adjusting track tension on a compact track loader, the Kubota SVL95. The process for adjusting track tension on this unit is similar for all other makes and models of heavy equipment; Deere, CAT, Komatsu, Volvo, JCB, Takeuchi, etc.

Begin by consulting your manual to find out where the track adjuster grease valve is on your heavy equipment. On the Kubota SVL95, the track adjuster valve is behind an access panel near the middle of the track undercarriage.
Make sure your grease gun is clean so you’re not introducing dirt or debris into the track adjuster system. Then you can start pumping in grease with your grease gun. When you’re pumping grease into the valve, the cylinder will push against the front idler to tighten the track.
Sometimes when you’re adjusting a track on a skid steer, you may run into a problem where grease will start leaking out between the grease valve and the grease gun. This could mean two things: either your grease gun fitting is worn out and not sealing properly or the grease nipple has had some damage done to it from debris, corrosion, or dust. Replace the track adjuster grease valve or the end of the grease gun fitting to fix this issue.
When the track doesn't have slack or sag left to it, you can back up the tracks or move them forward to make sure the track moves properly. Every machine will have different track tension requirements. Consult your manufacturer specs or OEM supplier to find out the tension measurements. Once the track is tightened, reinsert your access panel and you can begin operating again.
