In the meantime I've been to Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama and now I'm finally in Colombia.
Apart from Russia (Altai Mountains or Lake Baikal) and Georgia, Colombia has always been a country that has magically attracted me and where I could well imagine living someday. It is probably due to the warmth and openness of the people, which is exceptional.
Today I am with you in the capital of Colombia - in Bogota.
For many, Bogota is dirty, cold, noisy and dangerous. To be honest, I haven't heard anything to the contrary from any outsider. Such statements are probably made by people who feel magically attracted by the shine of the diamond, but simply leave the inconspicuous rough diamond lying on the side of the road.
The best way to get to know a city or country well is to have a local person with you. As luck would have it, I'm meeting Lorena today. We got to know each other in January 2013 and spent a lot of time together, but over the years the contact has broken off more and more. Thank you for the great city tour!
Lorena shows me the most beautiful view of the city, probably the most delicious food and a rustic way to enjoy various alcoholic beverages.
I was in Bogota for a total of ten days. I can best compare the city with the Peruvian capital Lima. You can see a discrepancy with Central America, although I think there are many parallels between Colombia and Mexico.
My conclusion: Bogota is a mirror and shows you what you want to see. I've only made friendly acquaintances - once even met gang members of a Venezuelan gang (Tren de Aragua) when I had to ask for directions at night. We even ended up having a few beers together. The food is excellent, the openness and hospitality exceptional. Personally, the city is too big for me to live in (a few times as big as Berlin), but it is predestined for vacation and adventure.
However, the same applies to Colombia as to countries such as Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador: Colombia is a beautiful jaguar. If you respect him and treat him well, then you may enjoy his beauty. But jaguars can also bite you in the neck.
