The Hummer EV is for early adopters and poseurs - and there's nothing wrong with that. For us mere mortals, the Silverado/Sierra EVs appear to give you much of the EV goodness of the Hummer but on a narrower track and with a midgate to overcome the tiny bed problem. And once they get through the loaded first editions, the Silverado/Sierra twins should be available at (somewhat) saner prices and option levels.

Cold weather saps the range. My EV is a 2017 with 100 miles of range and I lose around 30% of my range between running the heater and cold temps outside. Keeping the battery conditioned using L2 charger at home mitigates the loss somewhat. For a daily driver, it's not really an issue since new EVs have well over 200 miles of range and will be topped off at home. For road tripping, depends on charging infrastructure, distance, and speed.

That's funny on the mirrors. My mirrors on my 2015 GMC Sierra crew cab 1500 are manually folded. And the ONLY time they are folded, is when I go through a drive thru car wash.! Other than that, there's never a need to fold them. 2nd, the bed space. If you buy this truck, you're not buying it for bed space. That's like buying a half ton truck with the 5'7" bed vs a regular short bed of 6'5". Nobody's using a 5'7" like a regular truck. I've had 8 foot beds all my life in regular cab, 2003 extended cab half ton GM, and now I could only get 6.5 ft in a crew cab half ton model. Love the extra cab space, but not the extra $4000+ for a 8 ft bed in a 3/4 ton. Or the drop in mpg with a gas. I'm sure you can put on aftermarket lights on the Hummer for far less than the $2500 you spent from factory.! So, that would've brought it down to $112,000 with the full spare tire. Didn't you spend $83000 for the Ford lighting, ok, $29000 cheaper, but yet the heavier Hummer out towed it, in range, out excellerated it, and was better off road.? Plus has Supercruise for towing. Would never buy one, but if your complaints are valid, vs the Ford Lightning, and your buying a EV pickup for truck usage I'd call it a draw.

I'm sure the government will bail them out again if they have problems. I agree with you though. All the interesting tech that they put in this, and this is the vehicle that they choose to build. They should have just left the Hummer name stay dead and roll this thing out as an Avalanche. Even better, it would have been probably more popular as a 4Runner sized SUV. GM doesn't have one of those, that would probably be a good seller for them. And just wait till electric rates go up. Then it'll be the same thing as the original Hummers, it's not economical, and takes an exorbitant amount of energy to fuel. Maybe they can also map it back to a comparison with gasoline fuel efficiency for a modern truck? Especially as real-world MPGe don't seem to match EPA estimates, sometimes half less than predicted. A point of reference, the Hummer EV has more than twice the battery of a Tesla Plaid, nearly 100kWh larger than Rivian, and similar range as both. The Hummer is/was never about efficiency, but massive vehicle, massive power, and massive power usage. 300kW is an incredible amount of energy. Most home level 2 chargers produce less than 10kW, depending on setup and vehicle. An average home central air uses about 4-5 kW of energy, similar to an electric oven.

They do have a number of videos on the subject. But kW is a measure of power, kWh is measure energy which is simply a power for a given amount of time (ie the 215kWh battery of the Hummer could theoretically put out 215kW for a time of 1 hour before it runs out). A space heater usually maxes about 1800W or 1.8kW, so being able to accept 300kW is a lot of power during charging. Many many standard households worth of power while charging.

1 kW is 0.746 hp, so 300kW is 402 hp. Welcome to the metric system. Get used to it, because it’s better!

300 kw per hour with out knowing either the kWh capacity of the car or the avg kWh per mile is not too useful.

As always great video & the love/hate reviews are awesome. And I glad you buy/borrow trucks & cars to review for me this is by far the best channel on KZitem, but in my opinion as long as people continue to pay these way over prices the car companies are gonna keep going up.

There literally is no reason to buy that truck if it can't tow the weight of a heavy duty truck, the price is psychotic.

sooo you are charging with 40 Amps.... get the 48 Amp charger for it.... so at least you can max out it's Level 2 charging speed..... at 11.5 kW.

You guys are the best! I value your opinion, I went out and bought a lightning after watching your videos! And I'm a lifetime GM guy! Now I need your help... the Ford dealer says the truck won't charge. I can't go get it, and I have financed it already. Have toy heard of this "not charging" condition? What's your thoughts?

Sounds like the dealer is trying to keep your truck.

It does sound like the dealer is playing games. I’d go look at it and plug it in😉

I have seen 2 of these Hummer EV's here locally. How are they charging them at home if 2 phase residential electricity takes 4 days to fully charge?

I kinda figured it would be bugs in the first generation. I want to know how much it costs to fully charge it.

I’m planning on getting a 2022 Hummer EV Edition 1 and I’m wondering how many mile you had at 100% when you made this video?

I have a feeling your "software problem" was a hardware problem that GM said "we'll fix it in software"

Try and park that in the local Walmart parking lot in between other vehicles. What a ridiculous amount of money to spend on a vehicle. I wonder how long the warranty is and how much it will cost to replace the big battery because you will have to at some point.

I do love the car. Once the bugs are ironed out, it will be the very best option off-road.

Only if you don’t understand it’s benefit. It’s crucial to offering better handling on the road. You can utilize rear wheel steering during lane changes so as to not upset the chassis on the highway at speed. It also allows you to have a tighter turning circle when out of phase with the fronts for manoeuvrability or trailering. It’s not a gimmick if it offers functional benefits. Drilled brake rotors is a gimmick. A fake non functional hood scoop is a gimmick. Fake lifting hooks on the hood of an H2 is a gimmick.

8:47 I've always loved this 🤣🤣🤣 everyone commemorates GM for a 3 second 0-60, but in reality it's not 3 seconds (then again it didn't even achieve its bold 3 second quote), you have to wait for the vehicle to prep itself, a TRX can get 0-60 in 4.5 yes it's slower but all you have to do is press the gas petal, there's no warm up 💀💀

How does this "compete with the TRX or Raptor R"??? Just price? The Hummer is quick, but The TRX and especially the Raptor are far more capable off-road. And as with every EV right now, off-road range is abysmal. It would be flat out impossible to use the Hummer for the Big Bend camping trip I've planned for next month.
