Another Nerve wrecking episode. But the end results were very good . The men seems to have good confidence in their commander, as we see examples of bravery from several of them.

These last few episodes’ after battle reports have been very satisfying, seeing the huge (comparatively) areas of land captured compared to the first few, where just one tile changing hands was a big deal. Hopefully you’ll finally be able to break out into the Soviet’s rear and take the rest of the AO before the turns run out.

When I came up against the KV in my own campaign in this I ended up just thinning out my men, letting them through, bypassing them and racing to rout the rest of the enemy until a surrender, a bit cheesy but very effective.

Not that cheesy as it did happen historically , tanks would drive over the enemy frontline and keep driving , leaving their own infantry unsupported

The BT at 1:06:25 was actually taken out by AP rounds from a machinegun most likely. 7.92x57 is a rifle cartridge, the 7.92 rounds with the 318 at the end of the name are from the AT rifles. An MG crew decided to fight a tank head on and actually won.

I used to do WWII reenactments and our unit had a really big motor pool. I've had to chance to ride in a STUG and it's crazy to think of how that would have been, staring down a T-34 like that. It's cramped, it's dark, it stinks like diesel - add to that the threat of actual death in real life and it's really crazy what tankers and gunners did in those days. The sound mod you're using really brings home just how loud and miserable getting hit in a tank would be - even without a penetration.

@@ZayMTGChopcheesy They definitely caused PTSD for the entire German chain of command. T-34 caused the creation of the Panther tank and KV-1 caused the Tiger tank, yet again affirmed the German love for the 88mm gun, and caused major shift in focus towards tank destroyers,

@@RM97800 a small correction: the requirements for the Tiger (close to the final vehicle - 88mm gun and 100mm armor) were set in May 1941, before any sort of unexpected Red Army tanks were encountered, so they weren’t driven by the desire to outclass KVs/T34s

@@arkadiy9321 You're right. I should've known it wasn't born from the German-Soviet tank gap, because it was originally intended as a breakthrough tank (so instead of being made to fight the KV tanks, it had identical role on the battlefield as them), not the "ambush antitank hunter-killer" it ended up being in late war.

Hi Tonci, thanks for another awesome episode! Watching your man being massacred by the KV and T34s is not easy. A few questions: 1. Just wondering with the historical hindsight - soviets had much better and more tanks than Germans did, would it make your fight easier if you over prepare your anti-tank capabilities for each battle? Feel like you had no 8.8 on the battle filed was really a shame. 2. It seems the Stugs are under utilized in your fighting, even though I completed understand they haven't got the long barreled guns. Do you think you can make them more helpful in your future battles? Thanks and looking forward to your next episode!

Yeah the 8.8 cm guns are really the only thing I have that can reliably kill the KVs. But I only have a very small number of those. I´m trying to get them into battle, but I lost a few, others are low on ammo, or somehow always end up just outside of the battle area. I´ll try to get more use out of the Stugs, but they really can´t fight enemy tanks head on and don´t have much ammunition. The´ll get more to do in the next episode :)

Another display of early war might of the Soviet armor, and another display of the fact that tanks don't win battles on their own (Wehraboos will be shocked to learn about it when it finally goes through their thick skulls). There's a reason why they're called a Force Multiplier in modern US doctrine. That doesn't mean they ain't scary and can't massacre helpless infantry. The heavy tank PTSD that Germans suffered in France (Char B1, Somua S35, Matilda II) and in Soviet Union (KV-1, T-34) definitely played an important role in German late war heavy tank and heavy tank destroyer obsession. Also, the question is, where's Goering and the Luftwaffe doing during this scenario!? A competent air force can easily suppress the enemy armor advantage and maybe even destroy it.

Nighttime close air support isn’t really a thing at the time. Red Army had their biplanes doing night bombing runs, but that was against stationary targets and with questionable effectiveness

I would expect Werhaboos to know that tanks don’t work on their own better than anyone else :) Given that a German tank division was the first one to have 2 infantry regiments to 1 tank regiment ratio (unlike those of US and USSR at start of the war)

@@goodfellowboris8958 Well scale is relative in this game. This campaign here only has 10 turns and takes place on a small map, but the amount of units involved is insane. But if I bring to much from the reserves then I loose that secondary objective which can bring me the necessary points to push me past a draw... Hard choice
