My initial training was as a 67N20, Huey mechanic. I did a tour in Vietnam and flew as a door gunner for HHT 7/17 th Air Cav. Returned to the states and worked in the hangar at Ft Lewis, HHT 3/5 Air Cav. Ended up with a 67Y20 MOS, Cobra mechanic. Got the opportunity to fly in a Cobra on test flight, sat in the front seat and went out over Puget Sound. I actually got a little “stick time”. Quite an experience! I’ll never forget it.

Is that the same rotor system that was put on the Bell 214? It sounds like it runs just a few RPM slower than the ol' Huey.

@Mike Haggar Between ages 13 and 17, I lived near an army base that had a small helo field with Cobras and Hueys. My bubbies and I were Army brats with real interest in rotary-winged aircraft and the field personnel got to know us so we were allowed to hang out and enjoy the sights and sounds...never managed a ride. Hell, we used to camp out on a farm adjacent to the base and if they saw us, the pilots would drop down and buzz us at tree-top level. I bet they can't do that anymore!

It has no A.D.S. boom sticking out from the right side of the canopy. It has the newer K747 main rotor blades on it...has the 20mm gun, but the T.S.U. (telescopic sight unit/ AKA "the bucket") has been removed and blocked off with a nosecone. It looks as tho the aircraft started life as an E.C.A.S. model...or AH-!E. E.C.A.S. stood for Enhanced Cobra Armament System. I worked on these as a crewchief in Desert Storm. I know work on the AH-64D Apache...but I really miss the Cobras!!! So simple...and you could beat the snot out of them, and they'd keep on goin'!!!

Anyone know what model this one is? What is the difference between this one and AAHF's you tube ah 1 cobra flight 11 which is the foxtrot. I was the Govt Army engineer for the HMPP exhaust. Besides aft cowl and IR suppression plug what about blades (looks like Kaman 240 on both) and engine, plus canopy looks different. I am not looking for weapon system differences; just airframe and power plant differences.

I worked on these for 5 years, part of which was in Desert Storm! Now I work on Apaches... They phased the cobras out of US service for good in 2001.... I liked the Cobras much more than the Apache!...Hands Down!!!! Apaches are constantly breaking!! Too much stuff on them to go wrong!! But hey...that's politics will do!!

Politics always interfears, the rusians always do their best or kick out if no good performs, us take time to upgade .Know upgrade to 4 blades. The first time I saw a war chopter with 2 blades I thought it was stupit. Hello as more blades the better performce.

Can anyone tell me how this was filmed with main rotors maintaining human eye speed-up while the tail rotor is phased with camera speed. Tail rotor actually slows, stops and reverses itself. I just am wondering how the film framing was done.
@zekevictor

The tail rotor rotates at much higher speeds than main rotor so it passes through the so called "wagon wheel effect" phase before the main rotor.
