It actually still could. AI's fairly good at noticing really weird subtle patterns in data. If there's something, anything, within either messaging habits or profiles that has any sort of correlation with positive relationship outcomes, then an AI will probably pick up on it, in so long as it has a large enough (and accurate data set) and sufficient resources. That being said, if AI filtering for dating apps ever becomes mainstream, there is 100% going to be a rise in paid AI services that help 'optimize' your dating profile. Probably run by the same companies that provide the filtering service in the first place too. At that point, the filtering will effectively become useless except as an artificial wall that drives customers towards the profile optimization services. This is basically what's happening in the modern hiring process, btw.

I guess it depends how good the AI is and how you can train it. In the future AI can definitely be more flexible, and if it can ACTUALLY emulate your personality, values and worldview, I think it could be fine. And I wanna clarify I don't mean your AI dating a real person. That's horrible no matter what. But your AI dating another person's AI means you both agree to it and know what you're getting into. It's more like matchmaking combined with blind dating. You won't know who you're gonna meet and what they're like before you actually talk to them. I think that wouldn't be too bad. I would still prefer traditional meeting people in real life over any dating app or AI, but I can see this concept being useful to people. It essentially just skips the swiping left and right part and just matches you with someone automatically. And potentially even more accurately than humans since the AI's wouldn't sugarcoat, lie or hide anything with each other.

Even scarier thing is that this will probably not take off as well as they think because it takes away some of the dopamine addiction that people who use these dating apps are partly hooked on. "Swipe, swipe, swipe, match!" is a style of gamification in a way. Many people likely crave that dopamine burst at the moment of a match as much as they would with any other social media apps like tiktok, snapchat, etc. Possibly to such an extent that the end goal, finding a legitimate partner, is second to the moment of gratification. Even our instinct of finding a partner has been turned into a social media dopamine factory. Crazy world getting crazier
@yurisei6732
15 күн бұрын
Nah this can be used to do that further. There's a huge limitation on this dopamine loop currently which is that it still relies on getting real matches. Use of AI could allow for bots that are sufficiently convincing in the role of humans that addicted users won't necessarily be aware that they're not speaking to a human, which would then allow perfect control over reward feedback by the company.

I really don't see why people think that. The real dating would still occur, and there you will see if you actually like each other. If you don't, then you don't. What's the problem with that? The use of AI in communication situations like this is fascinating. There's this constant tension between desiring authenticity from others while wishing to present inauthentic versions of ourselves, which has already resulted in people feeding their emails through AI to pretty them up only for their recipients to feed them through AI to extract the original content. We could be in for a whole new era of etiquette where social faux pas becomes using AI re-writing tools improperly rather than saying improper things.

Okay, so I think people tend to forget that AI is 100% optional. Online dating is optional. Dating in general is optional. You don’t need any of these things to be happy or efficient. Dating apps, similar to AI, are selling you a solution to a problem they created. Real people exist and those people do real things. You can go to almost any social gathering a make new friends, and there’s a strong chance those friends might be interested in dating you at some point. Will they be the super-model level partners? No, but you probably weren’t going to land someone like that anyways. We desperately need to stop relying on algorithmic communication to solve our problems. Human interaction will, and should, always win over automation and I hope to god people realize this sooner rather than later.

I totally agree.. but the real horror is that we kinda all fled to online bc of how bad "outside" has gotten. Now, online is falling to the dead internet while "outside" has decayed to a sprawling suburban hellscape with no third places while seemingly all of our social skills have atrophied. I've spent thousands on trying to go outside in the past several years without really any success in forming any sort of lasting friendships, idk how dating irl is ever gonna work at that rate as someone who has vehemently refused apps for my whole life. Going outside is the only answer in the face of this dying, enshitifying internet, but how TF do we band together to rebuild third places? It's like we're living in Arthur C. Clark's, childhood's end where iirc society just decays when granted god-like "utopian" technology.
This reminds of the one Black Mirror episode where they all get assigned too each other by an algorithm.

I think where the disconnect is revolves around this view of dating where you are “supposed to” find the ideal partner with all the same interests and world views and it’s going to be a fairy tale relationship but in reality that’s not what makes a good lasting relationship. You are supposed to have differences and things that make you unique but because you both are good at communicating and have respect and love for each other, you can work through the differences. AI could eventually find someone who you are likely to have a super easy going relationship however, problems will still come up eventually and you need to know how to deal with them when they do.

This! People don't realize that common interests are NOT what keeps friends together. That's elementary school thinking.
