Sorry if this comment is too late to the game...Regarding the open port on the charcoal canister: My 1980 911sc is configured the same way, appears to be missing the connecting hose assy. My research has shown that earlier versions may have had the hose, but the vast majority of later ones actually do not, and I think that's how they came from the factory. You can't cap it off, it is a vent to allow evacuation of the canister and must be kept open and un-obstructed. A filter on the end would be a good idea though. Let me know if you came up with something different. Thanks!

I *think* there is supposed to be a rubber nipple on the fan shroud and a vacuum line connecting the two. Positive pressure from the fan shroud feeding into the canister and vacuum pulling it out the other end. That way it is a closed system.

@@JoeEngineer right, that is what I found by looking around also, but I can't find those parts. I found a source that suggested that pipe was omitted on later cars like ours. Thanks for the reply.
