Do these guys do mostly tig welding?

It depends on the operational requirements of the base they support. Some locations tig more than others. If it's air frame related welding, it's tig. But if it's ground equipment related welding it will most likely be mig but could be stick or even oxy-acetylene. We welded mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, and inconel. But welding is just one small aspect of this career field. They can manual machine on the lathe and mill, cnc machine, plasma, waterjet, heat treat, etc.. Basically anything from concept to creation, whether it's a special custom tool for one of the maintenance shops, or an actual aircraft part, these guess have you covered.

Depends on the base/aircraft. The majority of ground equipment is with MIG, but any welding on an aircraft is undoubtedly going to be using TIG.

@@Drejac1yes, guard and reserve units both have this career field. Just about any unit with an aircraft maintenance squadron will have Metals Tech (and just about every air base has a maintenance squadron).
