Having sacked Chris Hughton in December 2010, Newcastle appointed Alan Pardew as his successor. In his first full season in charge, he oversaw their best ever start to a season they eventually finished in fifth place, qualifying for the following season's Europa League.
After four years there, Pardew moved to Crystal Palace, succeeding Neil Warnock. Palace were in a relegation battle when he took over but he led them away from the bottom three, and they rose to 10th - their highest ever finish in the Premier League.
Their fine form continued at the start of the following campaign, to the extent that they concluded 2015 in fifth place. Poor league form in 2016, amid their run to the FA Cup final, then led to Pardew losing his job that Christmas.
His next job came a year later, at West Brom, who were struggling against relegation. He was unable to inspire them to safety, and left only five months after arriving.
